The ViewLondon Review
This may be a proper boozer, but it’s a proper boozer in the style of Knightsbridge, complete with high prices.
The Venue
The Wilton Arms is a very pretty little pub, set apart from the more fancy shopping streets of Knightsbridge. And it certainly presents a nice picture, with a frontage so covered in hanging flowers that you can barely make out the blue and gold sign underneath. It’s definitely worth making use of the couple of outdoor chairs and the pub bench in the warmer months. Inside, it’s traditional but in a cleaned up, Knightsbridge way. The tables and chairs are well kept and neat and the bar glistens and is clearly very well tended. But their biggest selling point is that they are one of the few pubs in the area to offer a TV, making it very popular during big sporting events.
The Atmosphere
This is Knightsbridge, dahling, and so the types of punter that prop up the bar drinking pints wear a better class of suit. But the mix is actually a nice one with young and old sharing the space and there’s none of the pretension that you so often get in Knightsbridge bars. And during big sporting games the pub quickly fills and the atmosphere gears up a couple of notches.
The Drink
This is a Shepherd Neame pub and so the ales on tap are exclusively from their brewery, but they are well kept with a decent pint of Bishops Finger on offer alongside their more popular Spitfire. They regularly mix it up but you won’t get some of the more exciting independent breweries showcasing their wares here, which is a shame. Also, the prices are higher than in Shepherd Neame pubs in less affluent areas with a pint of ale hitting £3.50 a pint.
The Last Word
The Wilton Arms is a pretty pub that’s good for catching the footie when nowhere else nearby will screen it.
