Such a disappointment. Decided to give this a restaurant a chance - big mistake and such a waste of money.
Starters were unappetising. Baklava was in fact just spring rolls, shop bought ones at that. Served up with that awful mass produced sweet chilli sauce you get in a bottle from Tesco's. Prawns were also not fresh - just quickly defrosted from the freezer *yuk*
Food was not authentic or of a good quality at all. Jerk chicken swimming in a black (obviously from being burned) gravy. Blackened plantain (again from being burned yet still charged for it) Roti's not homemade but shop bought yet owner is Guyanese!!
Worse to come was the rum & raisin ice cream, which is not rum & raisin at all. They just throw a cap of neat rum over vanilla ice cream, absolutely inedible.
Really below par food. No effort or attention to detail was paid to any of the meals, just all below average.
As Caribbean restaurants go, this one is best avoided at all costs unless you have money to waste. Wouldn't recommended this place to my worst enemy.
We both loved the Restaurant, the booking conversation was professional and inviting as was the moment we entered the Restaurant.
The food was presented beautifully with service to match
We discovered the restaurant is owned and run by a Mother and Daughter, who's warmth was so relaxing.
My Partner and I had a great Valentines evening.
It’s always very difficult eating out at a Caribbean restaurant when you are used to cooking and eating it all the time at home. Everyone cooks their dishes like rice and peas or curry mutton slightly differently depending where in the Caribbean you are from. So when I invited 25 guests mostly Jamaican to attend a surprise 50th birthday meal, I was a bit apprehensive about them enjoying the food.
This small, friendly and easy to find restaurant brings a little bit of Caribbean ambience to Hornsey. There is charming art work displayed and Yvette, the owner is always willing to organise events for budding artists and the like.
I organised a surprise 50th Birthday dinner for my husband at 2 Sixteen on 25th February 2012. We had a great time. Yvette, the owner and chef, made it very easy to organise this event and was very accommodating to us decorating the restaurant, bringing in our own drinks and cake and making everyone feel relaxed. She was great at offering us guidance and advice in planning and organising this event and I have to say a big thank you to her because everything went perfectly.
Yvette and her staff welcomed all our guests as if they were friends that they have known for ages making everyone feel comfortable and at ease. The staff were great, nothing was too much trouble for them.
We had the buffet menu at £18.50 per head. The food is freshly cooked and included chicken wings, prawns, curry mutton, jerk chicken, stewed fish, fried chicken, dahl, roti, macaroni cheese, rice and peas, plantain and more. Everyone said they have never seen so much food and, it just kept coming. But don’t worry about the amount of food what we couldn’t eat was packed up in containers for us to take home.
The homemade ice cream desert was delightful. Particularly favoured by our group were the rum (with real rum) and raisin and the mango flavours.
2 Sixteen serves good quality Caribbean food that is excellent value for money with a frien
We had a girls night at 2 Sixteen last night and had a FANTASTIC time. Our table was booked for 6.30pm and we were having such a good time and made to feel so welcome that we only left at 10pm!2 Sixteen is a small, clean and well presented restaurant, with a cosy atmosphere. We were given a warm welcome by the owner and chef Yvette, who helped us with choosing a good variety of food so that we could sample the whole carribean experience. The food was AMAZING, especially the prawn starter and fish stew. Everything was fresh and delicious. After our starter and main, just when we thought we could not eat a thing more we were presented with a trio of home made ice cream, again all 3 flavours were delicious... especially the coconut flavour which we would not normally eat!We are all looking forward to returning to 2 Sixteen soon!
Wow wow wow, I went to celebrate my birthday and believe me it was a fantastic experience. Unfortunately I'm one of these fussy eaters that find it hard to try new things; well this fantastic lady Yvette (owner and chef) was so nice, she made us all feel like she had invited us to her home and we were in her dining. She brought tasters for me and explained how each thing was made, which made me relax and feel at ease. The food was out of this world, the way that Yvette experiments with West Indian food and puts her own personal twist into it is exceptional. I've been to many West Indian restaurants all over London and without a shadow of a doubt, 2 Sixteen is number 1 for having the warmest reception and most inviting ambience I've ever experienced. I wish I could give 100 stars because 5 just doesn't cut it. Thank you 2 Sixteen and Yvette for the amazing food, beautiful reception and having us all dine in your dining room. I wish all the best Alistair
I went to 2 . . . Sixteen for the first time this Saturday (16.4.11) with a couple of friends and we were all taken with the intimacy of this cosy restaurant and its friendly atmosphere. Every guest is greeted by Yvette, the owner and chef, who talked to us merrily about her menu and her love of food. It really shows. Her Jerk Wings and Mutton Curry were amazing. So enthusiastic about food was Yvette, that she brought us some tasters of her other dishes and washed them down with a fine shot of rum - gratis.
This is one of a small number of restaurants in the area that serve great traditional food at very reasonable prices. I can't foresee ever being disappointed here and I will definitely be back to try the Fish Stew next time. Well done!

Hi guy's I went to this restaurant for my mums 70th birthday and mum does not eat out but Yvette the manager invited us to come down for a tasting and my mum was impressed. Let me tell you after agreeing all the details which was very easy and fun we went for the meal on the 15/01/11. Ladies and gentlemen to this place I will be going back to, the food was fantastic, the atmosphere was like being at home and the staff could not do enough to please. We never asked for anything twice and as expected they catered the whole event around us. Mum felt very special on her day and I am glad I chose 2 Sixteen. The quality and value of food that we had was first class, there was so much food that everybody left stuffed to the hilt.
All I can say is that the five stars that have been given on this site by all of the reviews including mine has been fully earned and is a tribute to the effort and enthusiasm that they put into making each experience an unforgettable one.
If you are looking for some where to go you must dine at 2 Sixteen
I ate there with my girlfriend and my best-friend..
I was looking for a Caribbean restaurant in London, and found out the 2sixteen which had good reviews so we tried it and wasn't disappointed.
The food is delicious, the owner of the restaurant very welcoming. The atmosphere is really cosy. The menu affordable.
My boyfriend and I ate here for the first time last night and were very impressed. The atmosphere is the restaurant is very relaxing and I described it as being in someone's lounge as it is so welcoming! Lovely, personalised deco and soft reggae being played in the background.
The restaurant was easy to find and there is ample parking on the road opposite.
The lady who owns and runs the restaurant is extremely welcoming and friendly and is happy to answer any queries or questions you may have. All of the food is home cooked and extremely fresh. The menu is simple and focuses on classic Caribbean food which is cooked and presented very well. My boyfriend and I shared jerk wings and saltish fritters to start which were delicious and full of flavour. I went for the chicken curry for main and my boyfriend had the curry mutton. Both dishes again were fabulous with lots of flavour. The dishes came with a large bowl of rice and peas, coleslaw and fried plantain...very good portion sizes. We were stuffed by the end, but had room for the home-made desserts; coconut and mango cheesecake and mango ice cream. I felt slightly jealous of the table next to us who had gigantic slices of chocolate cake and carrot cake!
Our meal was brilliant overall, the ambience, the staff and the deco. We will definitely return. A couple next to us have been back every week for the last 3 weeks and there was a family who were from Middlesbrough who go there whenever they are in the area. I would say that this restaurant is the sort of place you want to go back to time and time again because of the atmosphere and the genuine quality of the food. Nothing fancy, but a lot of care goes into each dish. Excellent value for money, food and drinks very reasonably priced. We will be back soon!
My partner and I went to 2 Sixteen for our anniversary and the food was amazing very fresh and well presented. We over ordered as everything looked so appetising and we wanted to have everything and it did not fail to disappoint. The owner was so friendly she came and chatted to us and was a lovely lady. It felt like eating in your dining room very cosy and relaxed atmosphere. I would highly recommend the Rum punch to warm you up it has a kick to it!. Great value for money and I would definitely be going back.
I was very sorry to see Jerkmaica close because there are no other West Indian restaurants within striking distance of crouch End.
But " Sixteen is fantastic.
Food wonderfully fresh and lots lof it; great welcome from Yvette and great prices for the food standard.
We're planning on being regulars!
Delicious food and down-home, comforting environment with an artistic flair!
I had the jerk chicken, rice & peas, plantains and cole slaw...plus shared some delicious plantain fritters as a starter!
To drink, we tried a Strawberry summertime spritzer - fabulously refreshing, and couldn't get enough!
Yvette, the owner and chef, came out to greet us and personally chat with us about our meal and experience. Great prices, food, and ambiance...
A definite gem in Crouch End, we will be going back regularly! :)
