The food and cocktails are great! And the staff are friendly and helpful.

There is a warm and vibrant atmosphere fit for all ages :) thumbs up.

Well what a great find!On a High Street full of the usual chain pubs and restaurants at last something that dares to raise the game and do something a little different. 44 has only been open a few weeks but its right on the money.I am used to checking new bars and restaurants and consider it a bit of a hobby (the wannabe journalist in me I suppose!) and my visit didn't disappoint.
We were greeted by a wonderfully helpful and happy hostess and offered a drink at the bar which has a comprehensive selection of spirits and a great cocktail list which can be matched with the food menu. Apparently the head bar man is from London and has set up and worked at some of the top cocktail bars there.He wasn't there on our visit but it was evident that they guys behind the bar had been well trained. All tasted of the ingredients stated on the menu - I recommend the Quince Sour and the Nashi Pear. The barmen are knowledgeable and happy to make a drink to anyone's taste. The bar is comfortable and minimalist with inviting banquettes.
We were then taken to our table upstairs - largish, light and airy space with wooden tables that indicated informal dining a la wagamamas but without the bench seating. We were given the menu which was divided in to veg,fish and meat tasting sections and it was explained that the concept was to choose a number of dishes for the table to share - the waitress was also helpful and in the know enough to say that we had probably ordered enough and to remember to save room for the dessert menu.
The informality of the room should not be taken at face value or as an indication of the attitude of the kitchen.. Apart from waiting for the beef marinaded in soy and balsamic(worth waiting for) everything tasted great, great ingredients - the thai green chicken sticks with glass noodles looked like they tasted - great colours and spice. I could go on but its one of those places you should try yourself. I've been back to try more of the menu - so should you!!
