A Yialousa Greek Taverna

Look no further for stonking great platters of Greek food. Yialousa is the place to make for. Meats and spreads, sausages and kebabs, hummous and other toothsome treats I don’t remember the name of make up a huge platter of Mezes. That’s what I ate weekend before last when I happened to land there with chums on an impulse trip to London. I can’t fathom what the word Yialousa means, but to me it means I have a new pretext for rolling my wheels into the heart of our great capital.
wow, to read these reviews is quite a reminder of how time goes full circle, (hopefully for the next customer!). went there in 1997, pretty fab then. whitebait, lamb shanks, and all, really good!
What a disappointment after excellent meals here over the years. The range of exclusively Italian daily specials should have tipped me off that this once-reliable Greek-Cypriot place has lost its way. The main a la carte course was made from okay basic ingredients but was quite tasteless, in the best tradition of English pub grub of yore, and the 'Greek' salad was, well, not very Greek, with just a few drops of dubious dressing on top of the slabs of dull feta. And anyone for room-temperature retsina? Good, sympathetic service from the waitress, though. I'll be giving this place a wide berth for a few months to see if the ?new owners get the message.
I believe this restaurant has new owners and what a job they have done, in destroying the quality of the food.
I know Greek food and the food we were served bore little resemblance. Pieces of tasteless and over done meat were accompanied by boiled (actually probably microwaved) vegetables and the calamari dish we ordered was quite simply dreadful, pieces of rubbery calamari accompanied by a watery horrible tasting tomato sauce.
Plus points, the beer and to be fair the service was good with a particularly friendly head waiter.
Don't bother, there's a plethora of better places at the Brunswick Centre.
