Well done! i heard they have done up the place but wasnt expecting something so upmarket. great atmosphere on a saturday night. we had dinner from 7ish. the starters were brilliant and good portion sizes. spiced just right. The main course was fresh and a great variety on the menu. excellent drinks list...so much to choose! we then sat in the lounge area where that had a DJ playing great music from the 90s rather than just the standard pop songs. overall a great night of food/drinks/music at a fair price. thanks!!
3rd visit and the best yet!!! great cocktails! veg platter - excellent, great lamb chops, fresh & flavoursome biryani....lamb melts in you mouth! worked out to about £30 per head for dinner and drinks which was quite reasonable! we went on saturday night an didn't book so had to wait a while, so would probably book in future!
It is pub/restaurant with too many tables, too close to each other and very loud. Not ideal for a romantic meal. On the other hand the food was absolutely beautiful. Service was poor, muddled and slow. Drinks are expensive, was not impressed to see a barman putting ice in a glass with his bare hand.
Best INDIAN restaurant ive ever been to. looking at the venue its nothing like a curry house. great ambience, amazing food...awesome cocktails. very pleasantly surprised!!!
Way too expensive, food - not great, they don't serve large white wine but they charge nearly £6 for the 175 ml. Too many waiters/waitress, asking if you like a another drink when they can see i've only had a sip of the one i bought 5 minutes ago. Lovely decor but that's about it. Won't be going there again. This restaurant should be on the programme "Rip off Britain".
we went there in a big group last week. they were very accommodating and the service was excellent compared to what you expect at similar type establishments. the starters were all very tasty and a change from typical menus. likewise the main course was a treat! highly recommended...just booked again for next week!
This was my 4th visit to Abercorn. the previous 3 had been ok in terms of the ambience of the place, food had been generally good but service poor.
However, on my last visit it was a shambles from start to finish. Service was terrible, food atrocious (do they use one marinade for everything), problems with bills and overcharging. We will not be returning
I have eaten at the Abercorn on 3 occasions and am looking forward to the next time. The chicken wings are excellent, the main courses are tasty and fresh, the service has always been impeccable. In particular there is a good choice for vegetarians. I believe it is popular not because of the decor but the food.
Firstly the venue its self is amazing, with no expense spared. But unfortunately this is where its stops. At the end of the day , an establishment like this will primarily be judged on food, and here it all goes downhill. Ordered two off the most popular items from the non veg starters menu. Tandoori wings and lamb chops. Both were bland , small and way to hot (spicy). If an establishment cant get these 'key' starters right...its over for them.it saddens me..I want this place to succeed..it a lovely place to visit...but the food is such a disappointment. Just look at the competition on its door step, Spice Rack and Malibu Club. Both do KILLER wings and lamb chops and main dishes!..and a lot cheaper too. So..Change the chef...review your prices..
It is expensive but all their starters both meat and veg are good! Mains not as good...so maybe not worth it! But not the best service!
Just returned from Stanmore. Me and my partner went to this ''talked about'' restaurant. I'll keep it short and sweet. Food-over rated and quite pricey! We ordered tandoori wings, lamb madras, steamed rice and cheese and chilli naan. Nothing spectacular but tasty nevertheless. Drinks also above average prices. Had a very nice waiter 'tend to us'. Very helpful, polite and actually knew how to do his job. Shame it can't be said for the rest of the staff. Overall, it was a nice chilled evening, no complaints on the whole. One thing I will say, the interior and design is very very nice. Even the toilets are, i must say, lovely. Quite high tech and 'mod'. Personally though, I think the presentation of the place speaks more volumes than the actual 'fine' food. Would recommend but nothing to write home about as they say.
We visited on Sat 30/april/11 - the place was packed - so any negative review may not serve to deter customers. But here we go: We paid £2.95 for 4 slices of Raw Onions and 4 Green Chillies that we requested to accompany our main dishes. Naturally we were given a tasting menu which naturally did not have a price for Raw Onions - which by the way are foc in all the other Indian eating places that I have been to! Outrageous. Pappadum - again not mentioned on the menu - were charged @ £1.95 for 2 ! The waiters are only half trained at best - they are very helpful and sincere - but no training. The guy who to our orders did not ask whether we wanted our dishes hot, Medium or Mild to taste. In the process, we ended up with more chillies than the actual vegetables - it was that hot. While the management may be able to get away with using the excuse they have just opened after refurbishment and are going thru teething troubles with new staff, etc - I am afraid that excuse will not hold for too long. Surely the manager will know the marketing concept of 3/11 - If you are happy tell 3 people to visit; if you are unhappy tell 11 people to avoid Abercorn. I am definitely in the 11 category - I will not be visiting Abercorn again and I will ask 11 people not to bother and go instead to Queenbsury Circle for a much better value for money for food which is much higher quality.
Ive only ever had the takeout from here, but its always been really nice.
