I went with my family last Sunday. The place was encouragingly busy and bustling.
ABU ZAAD was spotlessly clean, service was prompt. The waiters are really busy so can't spend time waiting over you, sometimes you might haveto flag them down, but they do try to be helpful.
The food is simple carefully cooked and exceptionally fresh.
My children had a Tajine, lamb stuffed courgette, and Frika Lamb. Not a morcel was left. They are still talking about the melt-in-your-mouth meat.
My Shawarama perfectly presented and still hot. My wifes grill cooked, not burnt.
So 5 mains, 2 sides, 5 juices, 2 deserts, cost ? £60.
Everyone stuffed and content. Best money I have spent in ages
I couldnt have been happier.

I went to Abu Zaad about three times and unfortunately the quality of food seem to deteriorate with each visit. On one occasion we actually we left the restaurant before finishing our food (it was that bad). Their branch in Edgware road is not any better, if not worse! The restaurant is also small and dingy, tables are so close to each other, I had to keep standing to let people go through. The amount of food on the plate is so little and not really nice. I come from that part of the world and I'm afraid their food is a disgrace. I'll never go there again coz its simply a waste of money.

Abu Zaad is the first Syrian restaurant I’ve been to – if I’m being honest I’m not entirely sure where Syria actually is (though I didn’t mention this to the staff!). A mix between Greek and Turkish cuisine, the food was a selection of dips with flatbread, and for mains we had chicken in yoghurt. The best bit at Abu Zaad though was the honey-dripped desserts and cooling mint tea. It was just a shame returning to the cold Shepherd’s Bush air afterwards – it put an end to our romantic desert fantasies just a bit.
