I am a member at Adam Street .

Its the most friendly and attentive places in town.

They have great Members Events as well as a fantastic restaurant with a great menu.

The drinks are not overpriced, under £4 for a decent glass of wine or a fiver for a gin and tonic.

Sure its got its raw bits but the owners are working on it all the time.

Its a fake private member's club. They had a booth in the business startup show earlier this year, listing all their prices!

Seriously, what private member's club has to advertise to the general public in this way?? You wouldn't catch home house or any other "real" club doing this! Not exactly "exclusive" is it?

Also they advertise to "intelligent sophisticated freelancers etc.." -Pandering to people who want to feel like they are part of an exclusive group, but who actually can't afford a "real" club. They've even played with the backstory of the club, talking about how actors used to "hang out" there.

When you go in, the decor is frankly shoddy, and sorely needs an update. Drinks are staggeringly overpriced and on top of this, I was overcharged for my drink!

Walk around the place, you'll see they haven't paid attention to the details, it needs interior work. Carpets are worn out, its has the facade of riches with a cheap interior and poor artistic taste of the "I think this is what rich people like" ilk.

Let me put it this way, you are paying way over the odds to go through a black door and essentially access a worn out cafe / bar.

I would never conduct a business meeting here, let alone "pop-in" for a drink.

That's not to say improvements could be easily made - they could! But I strongly suspect the club is in the red and dying for membership.

Adam Street is an absolute gem for city workers as everything is centered around ensuring you can work while you relax. Adam Street is perfect if you need to finish off some work but you want to get out of the office! Members only though which is a bit annoying.
