The ViewLondon Review
Albertine Wine Bar is a complete surprise. Hidden away from Shepherds Bush Green, it has exceptional wines, great food and a low-key environment. The VenueWood. Wood. Wood. Tables. Chairs. Benches. Floors. All sufficiently battered. Upon closer examination many are old pews from churches and it is suitably quiet with no canned music - just the sound of mellow chatter. Racks of wine line the bar and the food menu is listed on an old blackboard. There is also a smaller room upstairs at the Albertine Wine Bar, which can be booked for parties and functions.
The AtmosphereAlbertine Wine Bar is a place for grown-ups to relax and let their hair down. The clientele look like managers from the Beeb just down the road. There are candles and flowers and people relaxing with bottles of wine and nice food. The average age of the customers here is probably mid-forties but in a hip, young-at-heart way. Don’t be surprised to overhear the chatter of people discussing how they are on their way to Heathrow (backpack in tow) to shoot a documentary in Kenya, such is the norm here.
The FoodAlbertine Wine Bar has a small but well selected menu of French-influenced food. There are things to nibble and share and more substantial bites all at really affordable prices. The food is fresh and appealing and arrives promptly from the kitchen.
The DrinkPerhaps unsurprisingly, several pages of wine are available by both the glass and bottle at Albertine Wine Bar. There are well thought out descriptions of the wines, which reveal a lot of imagination and knowledge. There are also many out-of-the-ordinary wines at refreshing rates.
The Last WordIt’s almost painful to recommend Albertine Wine Bar. It’s that good that everyone will want to go once the secret’s out.
