Ordered a take out - got home to find burnt tasteless food. Called to complain and, the lady on the phone explained "that's how it comes" - Unbelievable. Used to be a good restaurant but now they just rely on their name> Disgraceful
A disappointing visit on April 2nd. Having visited Alounak about three years earlier with six of the eight people who visited on the 2nd, we were disappointed and wondered if the business had changed ownership. The service was good and although my booking was for eight they had only set a table for seven and it was due to a change in another booking that allowed us to have a comfortable table for all of us. For starters we ordered the mixed starter platter for eight which was OK, things on the plate tasted much the same but we had all refrained from eating too much during the day so the plates were cleared. The mains were more disappointing. The chicken shish was over cooked as was the kofta and there was an abundance of white rice with little or no flavour, the side salad was simple but good. Two of the party ordered the fish kebab which turned out to be a single very young and slightly over done sea bass on the bone which did not have very much flesh at all and this was again served bit an large amount of rice. I think that when a restaurant is serving such simple main meals they have to do them well. If we are looking to eat Iranian food in future, we will be looking elsewhere. A real shame because the visit three years earlier was enjoyed by all.
Great food! Honestly, this was the best meal I have ever had. Excellent starters, everything healthy and fresh. Beautiful. Make sure you book in advance because people are queuing to grab a table. Very cozy and stylish. And very busy too. Good service. Only one thing I would change are desserts. Not a lot to choose from and they aren't freshly made. The restaurant is unlicenced but you can bring your own wine with you. Highly recommended.
Not one for veggies, Alounak has plenty of meat on offer, including some interesting seafood. Colourful and cheery, you can sit under a palm tree (fake, of course) while you chomp on your meatballs. As expected, the Alounak staff are super friendly to boot.
Great restaurant, pretty decent fare, best Persian food behind Mahdi in Hammersmith and Hafez in Bayswater. If you don't like crowds, aim to get here early. Trying to get a table without a booking at a weekend is pretty hard, even if you are a couple. Note that they are not too bothered about standards of service and will swipe your plate/glass away from you hawklike, within seconds of you putting it down and usher you to leave after a minimum time at the table...unless you are a big (i.e. big spending) group. Foodwise and decor, thumbs up, service and crowding thumbs down.
