There has been another flurry of eateries at London Bridge of late - Bar Blue at Vinopolis, Roast and Wagamama. Calmly standing its ground is Amano, a stylish one-stop destination café on the corner of Stoney Street and Clink Street.

The Venue
A pioneer of the emerging slow fast-food market (healthy ingredients free from frying fat) ruled by Leon, Amano sets itself apart by adapting to not just the time of day but the time of year.

The Atmosphere
Starting the day as a modern fair-trade coffee bar with big glass windows, chunky leather sofas and clean lines, Amano serves fresh wraps, salads, pasta, soups and jackets for lunch, before finally changing into a rather cosy pizza cafe and bar in the evening.

The Food
The summer menu has moreish mezze to pick at outside in the sun, while winter welcomes over ten new pizzas to the original eighteen. The pizzette mini pizzas are delicious and are even more satisfying when you know that they were prepared by hand and are freshly out of the oven behind the deli counter.

The Last Word
With a third Amano due to open in 2006 at the More London development further down the Southbank, maybe the world’s not so mad after all.
