the best chickens Casar and the best veal i eat in all London,
i already been there to eat 1 years ago but it wasn't so good, now the kitchen are very been good improved, we will go back to amano hungry for more..Lyly
Only go here to eat if you want rude service, which is simultaneously slow and rushed, and you are in no hurry to do something else before armageddon.
I ate at Amano by Tate Modern. Their Chicken and Couscous wrap was a big mistake. Heavy beyond belief. And a breach of any advertising standards. Couscous with minuscule slivers of chicken (four in total). Yuk. I wondered initially whether I had been given the vegetarian option that my partner had ordered.
The staff were very good when I complained and said that the wraps served at the Tate Modern branch are made elsewhere and just toasted here. They did add extra chicken which helped but this place need to look at their dishes.
I couldn't recommend it, I'm afraid.
Amano was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I have had in London. I went for dinner there with my boyfriend on a Sunday night. Although we had booked and the restaurant wasn't busy we had to wait for our table.
I then ordered Lasagne which they told me they had run out of so I ordered the Cannelloni instead. This turned up in a dish which had obviously been heated up in the microwave. It was shrivelled and small and looked very unappetising. Nevertheless, I tried it and it was worse than a ready meal you'd get in a supermarket. The filling was dry and crumbly, there was very little sauce and parts of the outside were crispy where it had been burnt.
My boyfriend ordered the sizzling chicken which turned up not sizzling and looking very forlorn - the accompanying wedges and vegetables also looked like they had been microwaved.
The staff were inattentive and it took ages for us to get the bill. By the end of it I just wanted to get out of there - I would not recommend this place to anyone.
I was extremely disappointed with this restaurant on Clink Street. We had reserved a table for 6.00pm for 6 of us. It was a family occasion celebrating 2 birthdays. We were booked to go onto Vinopolis for 7. 30.
The starters were fine but the wait for the main meal meant we received our dishes at 7.10.
My youngest son and I ordered the veal dish which arrived looking nothing like its description. There were no 'rolls' of veal just 2 slabs of overcooked fried veal and a slab of what tasted and looked like thick bacon stuck on the side of a mound of mashed potato. We said nothing at that point. My son then found tiny bits of green on his veal which when he felt it in his mouth pronounced it to be plastic.
We called the waiter over to explain, he then fetched the manager who I think was called Stefano. Again we explained and it was decided maybe it was a bit of packaging . The manager left the table saying 'It happens.' He did not attempt to remove the plate nor to offer a replacement at that stage.
My eldest son got up to talk to the manager whose attitude none of us could believe. The manager had decided not to offer a replacement as he knew we were expected elsewhere soon. Although it was agreed we would have a fresh dish I cancelled it and gave my food to my youngest son who would have had no main dish at all.We were not charged for the dish nor for the service and quite rightly so.
You will understand when I say how disappointed we all were. The manager's dealings with the situation were far from satisfactory. In fact he would certainly benefit from some customer service training. We were offered no recompense or compensation for our meal.
To make matters worse I have filled in 2 comment sheets asking for a reply to address the complaint. The first did not happen and the second just said they had received my comments. I have emailed them to no avail and their phone number does not connect!
The worst dinner experience I have had in a long time. Rude, untrained staff clearly don't want to be there.
Waited for ages for everything - had to ask two people in order to be seated, waited to get order taken and food took 50 minutes (that's right - nearly an hour!) to arrive at which point we had asked where it was twice, both waiters said they'd see and only one came back, saying it would be 3-4 mins (was about 10 after that point).
The final straw was that when the food arrived they'd only brought the mains - our order for starters never reached the kitchen.
The waiter who explained this did not apologise, just said it must've been the kitchen's fault, not his! The food was genuinely dreadful in its own right.
Pizza was uninspired and my main course gorgonzola chicken salad was a mountain of very salty chicken and cheese, with only a handful of salad leaves and no dressing and nothing moist such as peppers or tomatoes in the salad, so the whole thing's terribly dry & unappealing.
Not to mention we both agreed it was more of a starter sized portion. At the end of the night our bill was brought over by the manager who seemed to think it was generous that he'd taken off the starters (which we'd never had) and given a 20% discount.
I got the feeling he wanted us to thank him for that. I felt it was too far too late to be apologising. Will never go back and would not recommend it to anyone.
I went recently to Amano. I was recommended it a friend and decided to try their food. Not to mention that their sandwiches are quite salty and I had to throw mine away after few bites, the staff were very unfriendly and unwilling to help when I tried to order a sandwich from the deli counter.
It was not at all busy and but they said they were closed, and pointed to the snadwiches on shelves, which had little selection. As Amano says it's all day cafe I think it has a long way to go to even think about getting close to any high street brand. I would never go back to there and wouldn't recommend it to anybody.
Amano is one of the best cafe/cocktail bars in the bankside area if you are looking for high quality food with a bit of a twist.
The building itself is non smoking and hyper clean, and the lunchtime menu is diverse and interesting with soup choices, flatbread, pototoes, salads, wrapini's and more.
The place is always busy, but a part of me now wonders if Amano has become a victim of its own success. While the flatbreads are fabulous with an extensive ready-made selection or pick and mix deli, it can be all too easy to spend in excess of £5 on what is essentially a sandwich. The evening menu too has changed dramatically since it's launch and is also very expensive, with bread sticks costing £3 with at least another £3 for a dip to go with them.
The pizza offerings have unique topping combinations which may not suit all, and the cocktail menu is dramatically smaller than it once was.
On busy nights the service at Amano can be a little hit and miss, but in general it's a good experience. Look out in particular for Freedom Organic beer and stunning espresso martini cocktails. Go before 3pm, for lunch or the selection is limited.
Amano is absolutely perfect if you don't have time for a proper lunch but still want something very nice to munch on! Now a firm lunchtime favourite for me!
