The ViewLondon Review
Come hungry to this friendly Brazilian restaurant, where all you can eat takes on a new meaning.
The Venue
You'll be welcomed by warm orange walls, bright flowers, candles on every table and authentic South American waiters. Beyond this are signs that this space used to belong to an old Irish pub, which makes for an interesting yet not unpleasant combination. Attention to detail only seems to lack with the seating arrangements – plain, almost diner-style tables and chairs with thick, plastic-covered tablecloths, not particularly evocative of the Brazilian scene.
The Atmosphere
Though quiet on a week night, busy evenings will be filled with much bustle and chatter. This is a great place to come with large groups thanks to its roomy feel and wide open spaces. Service cannot be faulted with dependable waiters that make you feel well looked after and always serve with a smile.
The Food
The style here is prime rodizio, a non-stop service with hot and cold buffet plates and succulent pieces of grilled meat served to each table individually. Take your pick at the buffet from slightly tired salads, hot meat dishes, battered banana (quite a nice surprise for the tastebuds), well-oiled olives and more, as well as a selection of dressings. At the beginning of your meal, you're provided with a simple card - show its green side for continuous service, and show its red side to finish service or to have a short, recommended pause during your meal.
After filling your plate up at the buffet, you'll be served meat, sliced straight off the joint on to your plate, at about five minute intervals with a whole variety of about 15 different types of meat, including picanha steak, beef ribs, flank steak, pork ribs, garlic-flavoured sirloin and grilled lamb to Brazilian sausage and chicken heart. Each cut of meat is full of flavour arriving hot to your plate and most are wonderfully tender. The chicken heart tastes like quite a dark meat - such as duck - and is tough in texture. Then there's coarsely textured Brazilian sausage - very meaty, well-seasoned and fairly lean, too. There's also a sirloin cut of beef, which is packed with strong garlic seasoning - not unpleasant but may not be good for first dates! Chicken wings are on offer too and these have a char grilled flavour and are fun to pick at. You may also be served tender slices of lamb, seasoned with a hint of rosemary. This buffet service costs about £20 which is good if you're up to the challenge of eating a lot, but can add up in large groups. Frequent, changing promotions are also available if you eat on certain days, and a kids’ buffet costs £9.75.
If you have room for dessert, there's quite a selection on offer. The traditional Brazilian dessert of Pudim de Leite Condensado is a sweet creme caramel with flaked coconut for a pleasing crunch. Chocolate fans won't be able to say no to the winning combination of chocolate walnut brownie, pistachio ice cream and warm chocolate sauce, which magically doesn't melt the ice cream. These desserts average about £4 each.
The Drink
If you're in the mood for wine, the Brazilian choice Rio Sol (16.50) is a red wine with a warming taste of berries and plums that will complement the meat selection well. Other wines feature from Chile and Spain and range in price from about £12 - £20 a bottle. Alternative choices of beverage include beers and soft drinks.
The Last Word
Be prepared to feel as full as you might on Christmas Day, as it's difficult to say no to the range of food and meats on offer. This place will be especially enjoyed by die-hard meat eaters and anyone who wants to try something unique without worrying about forking out a little for the experience.
