The ViewLondon Review
Amici Miei opened its doors in September last year, and its authentic Italian cucina feel, delicious food and great service is already proving prety popular.
The Venue
Amici Miei is a cosy, one-room restaurant with simple decor, chalkboards on the wall, white resin pendants and wooden tables and chairs painted in soft hues. It’s a neighbourhood restaurant with an urban feel, situated at the beginning of Kingsland Road - that very convenient, if not particularly pretty, stretch that keeps Shoreditch locals well fed and well quenched.
The Atmosphere
This warm and welcoming restaurant with its simple, pleasant décor and friendly vibe really does bring a bit of Italian flair to Shoreditch. All of the staff members are genuinely cheerful and greet everyone with a smile. Waiters are very knowledgeable about the menu and very personable - chatty but not intrusive, attentive yet not pushy.
The Food
The menu changes seasonally, but it does remain distinctly Italian, without being too rustic. There are twists added to traditionally simple starters such as the burrata, where a wonderfully creamy cheese is matched to an aubergine carpaccio and homemade pesto for an aromatic, savoury touch.
Signature dishes include the risotto with radicchio e salsiccia: it has a rich and luscious texture and the pungent flavour of the radicchio (bitter red chicory) is well balanced by a splash of wine, while thick chunks of pork sausage complete the earthy flavour of this impressive main course.
Along with excellent pastas and risottos, Amici Miei also serves very good pizza, with dough made daily on the premises and cooked in a wood burning oven. The dough is thin, and soft yet crispy around the edge, with a tomato base that is rich but not too cloying, allowing the toppings shine through. There is a good array of pizzas to choose from too, some of which are which are not particularly common on our shores, like speck ham or Pecorino cheese.
The Drink
The wine list consists of a decent selection of bottles carefully researched to provide quality wines at a good price. The prosecco is a pleasant surprise, its fruity acidity is well balanced by a subtle hint of sweetness. A good selection of digestive liquors is also available to finish off your dinner in a manner befitting such a pleasant spot.
The Last Word
Impeccable cooking, expertly chosen wines and jolly staff look set to capture the hearts of foodies in Shoreditch and beyond.
