All I can say is....absolutely superb! The meze was...Outstanding!
I visit London once every two months as i live in Liverpool with my wife, on my most recent visit we tried Andreas restaurant.
The food was absolutely marvellous and the best greek food that i have had in london or liverpool.
I tried two very traditional greek dishes taramosalata and kleftiko and both were exquisite, my wife had a dolmades and joked about coming to London every week for the food.
Will definitely return on my next visit to London.
Andreas has been a fixture in Charlotte Street since God was a lad, his helpful, easy charm winning over generations of diners who have come to expect great food and excellent service.
A few months back he relocated to new premises further north, near the junction with Goodge Street.
First the good news: The new premises are smart, entirely practical and now have the added bonus of a downstairs bar so a pre/post-prandial drink presents further options and when I was last in the restaurant it was proving highly popular, especially with the ladies.
So, what of the restaurant itself? Well, the building may have changed but the atmosphere has not, thanks to Andreas and his staff, some of whom are family and the rest long time employees.
Oh yes, the food; traditional Greek and all the better for that. Starters like Houmos and Halloumi are always fresh and appetising and the Kleftiko is never less than superb.
For hungry types, the Mixed grill represents a tasty challenge (too much for me) and the Stifado was excellent.
Greek wine does not float my boat but the smooth Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon bloody near sank it, three bottles, I think!
I dine here maybe 3/4 times a year (and use the bar more often) and have yet to be disappointed so I guess the relaxed atmosphere belies the hard work behind the scenes.
Whatever, it works.
The meal was not great and the service was even worse. I tried the lamb cooked in the oven which was cold.
I then complained to the waiter and it was changed and was edible. I will not be going htere again.
We had Christmas party at Andreas, not sure what to say apart, absolutely brilliant. Everything was done with great detail.
Went there few more times after this, and that prompt me to leave the feedback. Food and service is PERFECT.
This was left from staff on behalf of UCL-Hampstead Campus
went to this restaurant Last night. Wonderful. I met the Chef and owners which was a pleasure. The chef Antonis used to be the executive chef of the president of Cyprus and the owner has bbeen in the industry for over 30 years and is a fantastic character. Go there and dont just try the food...talk to the staff!
I went to Andreas last night for valentines day with my boyfriend and as a first timer to the new restaurant i was pleasantly surprised, the hospitality of the host and the rest of the staff was fantastic really making our night very enjoyable. The food was gorgeous real proper greek food that tastes delicious, will definately be going back!
Food is superb! Good atmosphere and staff. Would be 5 star but Im used to the Ritz, Signor sazzi and other exclusive restuarants.
The old Andreas restaurant at 22 Charlotte Street has ceased trading. The NEW Andreas Restaurant open in Nov 08 at 40 Charlotte Street with a modern fresh approach to Greek cuisine served in a bright new restaurant with an intimate bar and party room in the basement.I found the food and service truly excellent, the staff friendly and welcoming and wish them all success.
As far as Greek restaurants go this is the best for food I have been to outside of Greece. Waiters very freindly and very funny and are Greek too which is a nice touch.Restaurant looks good too.Definitly go!
Tasty food, check it out.
