The ViewLondon Review
The recipient of many awards over the past decade, Anglesea Arms is a bustling and popular gastropub tucked away near leafy Ravenscourt Park. Famed for its delicious meals and extensive wine list, this neighbourhood pub works on a first-come, first-served basis – no reservations. The VenueWalk 10-15mins from one of four tube stations (Ravenscourt Park, Goldhawk Road, Hammersmith, or Stamford Brook) and you’ll be greeted by the Anglesea Arms; a quaint gastropub tucked away on the residential and leafy street of Wingate Road. Away from the busy roads, you may not necessarily know the Anglesea Arms existed unless previously recommended. However, the rustic interiors coupled with the warm atmosphere and general buzz will bring you back time and time again. Tip – in the winter don your woollies and head down with your marshmallows and toast in the open fireplace – bliss.
The AtmosphereBusy almost every evening, this gastropub is popular amongst locals and especially so for the twenty to thirtysomethings. However, the staff don’t do justice to the popularity of this place – a course in customer service wouldn’t go amiss.
The FoodDon’t expect to find chicken in a basket or fish fingers at the Anglesea Arms. Instead, you’ll be spoilt for choice with starters including such delights as fresh oysters, mezze plates, or soup. Mains include a great selection of Coet de Boeuf with home cooked chips, grilled fish with season vegetables, ratatouille, or freshly made pasta. Famed for its food, most are rarely disappointed with a meal here, and prices range across a very reasonable £5-15.
The DrinkYou won’t go thirsty at the Anglesea Arms with an extensive list of wines and selection of beers on tap (including Fosters, Kronenbourg, Guinness, and Hoegaarden). Standard pub prices: wines £12 for a bottle, beer £3.
The Last WordThe Anglesea Arms is a busy gastropub in Ravenscourt Park frequented by locals; a popular destination for evening meals. Operating on a first-come-first-served basis, make sure you get there early to get the best seats in the house.
