30 minutes late to sit down for booking (afternoon tea), no apology from the maître d' while she called me by a different name. Plonked down next to a family with a screaming brat of a child (baring in mind this was Valentines Day). Not a great start. However, floor service was excellent. Started with Champagne and Strawberries, superb. Sandwiches next, served with choice of tea. We have a second serving of sandwiches as they were delicious. Followed by cakes and fancies, and then scones and cream. We weren't offered any additional cakes, but we were full by this point!
Tea - only ever re-filled with hot water, so extremely weak after a few cups, which wasn't great when they came round filling your cup every now and then (even if you had tea still in there)the live pianist they promised rocked up halfway through the tea, and then left early, leaving silence over the tea room, which was quite strange. Overall, it was a nice experience. But for the money (£100+), go elsewhere - the Ritz for example, where everything is first class, every time. Here, you did feel like an afterthought, like they begrudged doing anything for you, which meant I begrudged the cost, and even more so the service charge.
