The ViewLondon Review
Aubaine is a presentable venue, but it doesn’t seem terribly sure what its aspirations are.The VenueMore neighbourhood brasserie than city fine diner, it holds a boulangerie, a patisserie and a restaurant, is situated at the heart of the Bromptons and attracts the area’s chi chi residents.
The Atmosphere
The glass frontage rolls back in summer to allow customers to sit out on the street and it's generally packed and lively. With French country furniture and industrial finishes, the interiors are light, airy, rustic and pleasant although they lack impact, and the tables are positioned a little too closely together.
The Food
The menu accommodates the locale’s diet-disciples well, with a strong selection of salads.
Staple favourites (smoked salmon on a potato blini, pan-fried peppered scallops with baby spinach and leeks, rump of lamb served on a bed of baby Provencal vegetables) take precedence over gastronomic flair. Dishes are fresh and well-cooked, but not memorable.
The Last Word
Overall, Aubaine is an adequate place to while away a lunch or dinner, but if you prize the innovative and experiential in your dining sojourns, you might just come away feeling a little underwhelmed by its offering.
