The ViewLondon Review
Beautiful inside and out, the Audley is the kind of neighbourhood pub you wish you had up the road.
The Venue
A well tarted-up old boozer, the Audley has handsome proportions and an attractive exterior decked out in pink terracotta. The signage is stunning as are the well-tended blooms that beckon you inward where you’ll be besieged by a plethora of dark wood.
Large arched windows line the wall, although the heavy, dark windowframes don’t allow too much light to seep inward. The walls are panelled and there are some attractive decorative features in the form of carvings. The beautiful chandelier doesn’t appear try hard, instead adding an extravagant touch that works. The bar itself is a piece of lovely craftsmanship and is the logical gathering point for the hordes.
The Atmosphere
The Audley gets very busy of an evening as it fills with a dark-suited business crowd. There are plenty of staff on hand and they are kept busy sliding along the length of the bar to serve the punters. It can get loud, so it isn't the place for a heart-to-heart, but would make a good stop on a pub crawl.
The Food
There is a typical pub grub menu at The Audley (think burgers, fish and chips) with wallet-friendly prices. None of it is particularly adventurous but it will line your stomach and leave you money to drink with. There is a separate dining room upstairs for a quieter meal.
The Drink
There is Leffe, Hoegaarden, Becks Vier and Budvar on tap for lager lovers and Youngs Bitter, Greene King IPA, London Pride and Bombardier for the ale crowd. Reasonable priced wine by bottle and glass and plenty of tipples cover all the bases.
The Last Word
The Audley is a beautifully presented, cheerful pub and is well worth seeking out.
