During my recent visit to London I had lunch at the Audley on two occasions - both far exceeded expectations. I had been in London the year before and ate at two different (nameless) pubs. I had fish and chips at each as well as a beer. I was disappointed with both.

We walked into the Audley on a rainy Monday, May 7 and were greeted very warmly in spite of our soaking-wet appearance. The waitresses and manager couldn't have been friendlier. The place is very clean and upscale. The fish and chips were top rate on Monday, and on Wednesday I had a baked chicken sandwich which was also good.

We were obviously mere tourists but were treated like VIPs by the help. The atmosphere and quality of the food were remarkable. This will be my lunch spot for all future visits. My only suggested improvement would be to encourage the Audley to invest in a toilet seat for the men's room as there is none at the present.

I'd have to agree entirely with the excellent review of the Audley by Greg. Mount Street is gorgeous, the staff are very helpful, the food good, and the beer reasonably priced. The best place to sit in the summertime is outside the Audley which is heaven.

The Audley does indeed resemble some form of Gentlemen's club, right from the exaggerated flocked wallpaper to the extravagant chandeliers. The staff were helpful and almost conversational! I spent several hours outside quaffing far too many ales (that weren't too badly priced considering the area) and perusing the rich as they cruised Mayfair.
A pub for the mates - the food didn't look too bad either - standard pub fayre.

The Audley is a smashing pub smack bang in the epicentre of a disappointingly poor area for drinking establishments (the only other one worth visiting within two blocks being the Shepherd's Tavern in Shepherd's Market - "what about the grapes?" I hear you shout. Well I think it's unbelievably overrated - dark, gloomy and depressingly expensive for a pint).

As you approach the Audley, the surrounding buildings are among the most beautiful in London - You can't miss the tall, proud red works of art!

Inside the pub, which is unusually large and accomodating considering rival pubs, the decor is traditional but smart and the people are eclectic and amiable (although the uncontrollable flocks of suits can become rowdy later on - not always a bad thing!). The staff are extremely friendly and the drinks are predictably priced (2.60 odd for a Fosters).

If you are lucky enough to be at the Audley on a nice summer's day, you can sit outside and watch the procession of expensive cars at the crossroads (not to mention admire those buildings I mentioned before).

However, even on a cold winter's night, the Audley retains an English, warm feel to it, where you'll always find large groups of people to chat to.

(The food is average to good for a central london pub with prices to match but let's face it, if you drink enough stout you wont need any anyway!).
Fully recommended
