Unfussy authentic Greek fare is served up in this well established Greek restaurant.

The Venue
Bacchus Restaurant’s unfussy philosophy towards food is also reflected in the decor. Large plants are carefully positioned so as not to come face to face directly with diners plates. There are also a striking melange of Grecian artefacts dotted along the walls that helps distract from the foliage. The low music in the background does its best to be discreet alongside the greenery.

The Atmosphere
A mixture of Hampstead locals and tourists frequent this establishment. You won’t find a noisy ambiance here, only loads of people enjoying their meals.

The Food
There is an extensive menu on offer with a large selection of hot and cold starters which include pungent halloumi, a lightly grilled cheese originating from Cyprus, and the highly recommended freshly prepared dips of spicy hummus, aubergine spread, salty taramosalata and tzatziki, which all come with pita bread and are ideal to share.

For mains try the charcoal grilled meat dishes like souvlaki or kleftiko, which is slow-roasted tender Cyprian lamb shoulder flavoured with tomatoes and bay leaf. All dishes are accompanied with a choice of salad, rice or potato. A nice option is the individually baked vegetarian moussaka, with a creamy layer of Bechamel sauce that bubbles away carefree on top. Bacchus also offers a traditional meze option featuring a few starters and a mixed meat grill, which at under £20.00 per person to share, offers good value for money. Desserts consists of the traditional Hellenic dishes including a selection of is comprised of sweet baklava.

The Drink
Praise to Bacchus Restaurant’s namesake, the god of wine, because wine certainly does flow here. Complement your meal with some decent bottles hailing from Greek and Cyprian vineyards.

The Last Word
Bacchus won’t set the world alight in culinary terms but is a good choice for a friendly, casual and reasonably priced meal.
