by far the best option to eat in borough market. Forget Roast with it's over priced menu and surly service. For a real taste of the best of British head down to the banana store.

their menu changes daily and the chef goes out of his way to accommodate any requests you might have.
On a Saturday you can buy your main ingredient (try furness fish or farmer sharp) and the chef will present it however you'd like it served. All you pay is £10 which covers all the side dishes, veggies etc and it works out at great value. it's a really interesting concept, my friend from NZ was really impressed with the kangeroo dish she had made up especially for her.

a really lovely dining experience in the heart of borough market

Twelve of us visited the restaurant in February 2010. The host was very rude and was telling us what NOT to eat on the menu. Furthermore, a few dishes on their menu (limited as it was) were unavailable, because they had run out of ingredients. This is a great example of an extremely poorly run restaurant and I would think twice about going there, especially if you are a large group.

I don't recognise this experience as being possible in such a fine establishment as the Banana Bar. The host couldn't have been more helpful as he served our party of nine with various exquisite omelettes. Although the wine list was extensive we opted instead to sample the delights of the special teas and tisanes which the owner Douglas was happy to provide, while admiring the splendid view over the cathedral, and being cooled by the unconventional air-conditioning system. To our surprise, especially to those of us in the party for whom English is not our first language, Douglas had an adequate command of several languages with which he regaled us until it was time to go, although some of us felt his English was a little curt as he waved us "adieu". Perhaps it was tiredness after having provided us with such a wonderfully unforgettable experience. I really wonder if bsas4 really went to the same hostelry as we did! We'll definitely go back for more of the same next time we're in the area.

I first tried Pringle's restaurant (and he is always on the premises and overseeing his customers and staff) for a girlie lunch on a Friday - delicious and the best Bloody Mary I have had in a long time.

Then, on Saturday, 6 of us trouped in to take Pringle and Mathew (the lovely chef) up on the Eat What You See menu. Let's just say, Mathew worked miracles on two bags of food that could have seemed like a joke - ranging from scallops and mussels for the fish eaters; sprout tops, root vgetables and samphire for the veggies and steak, mallard, pheasant and partridge for the meat eaters. The meal was pure wizzardry and not only tasted amazing but looked incredible too. More Bloody Mary's were tested and yes, all top notch. Do not miss this most amazing and original eatery in the heart of London

This is the rudest venue in London. We contacted them about holding our wedding reception (as they advertise they do) and they couldn't have been less helpful.

They also won't let you have a table for dinner for less than six people - and they wonder why they are struggling. If you want polite, helpful service - avoid at all costs!

The Banana Store has an excellent selection of food, beers and wines. Menu seems to change every couple of weeks or less and is of high standard for which I would have paid more elsewhere. Seems good atmosphere for relaxed eating or business lunch and staff are attractive and helpful. Chef seems experienced and enterprising.

Only problem is evening meals have to be pre booked but full lunch or bar meals available all day.

Venue is not a tourist type of place and seems to be frequented by locals who know it well.

Recommended.
