The Thai dishes that I ordered on the menu were all right, but I have had a lot better around London.
The service was terrible. The waiters were really rude, and took a long time to serve us. We had to go get a waiter to get served.
The atmosphere of the place is terrible. It is really loud and you have to shout across the table to be heard. It is also really hot; someone I was with at the table was sweating profusely all dinner and they had a mild dish. This might be because they really pack the people in.
I'd go somewhere else if you are looking for a nice dinner.
Went there last week.At first I didn't really like the way place looks like-I mean its just very plain and looks a bit old.Also was a bit dissapointed cause I had to share a table with a couple of strangers...But after I recieve my food I completaly changed my mind!!Had really nice starter(don't remember the name but it was kind of chicken pastry-number 3 on the menu:)Maincourse was amazing!!(Had quite a lot of trouble to decide what to order but waitress was really helpfull and recomended beef green curry)Have to say-EXCELLENT CHOICE!!!I really loved it!! But that's not the end-I still managed to have a dessert-rice pudding with ice cream(yummy!!).I have to say that I've really enjoyed that dinner.Atmospheere was great,music wasn't to loud,amazing food and excellent service.Will be coming back!!:)

I will stick up for the lovely Banana Tree every time cos it rocks and the reviews below are bogus cos the service is great!

the fish dishes are fresh and yummy
the person complaining about the service is wrong maybe they should stick to macdonalds!

to insult the banana tree is to debase a wonderful thai malaysian experience

and the staff are really friendly and always happy to explain the dishes, which are totally yummy and huge...
it's the best eatery in W Hampstead and there 'are' lots to pick...Sooooo Pick this

It was our Uni reunion bash so I suggested Banana Tree Canteen since I remember going there two years ago and it was quite reasonable. The waiting staff were extremely patient with us as we were a little rowdy, but when the food arrived we soon calmed down.
Overall this place had great atmosphere, good food and fantastic smilley service! Everyone liked the Banana Tree Canteen so much we may well come back next year. I on the other hand may just come back next week with my other half.
I also really used to like The Banana Tree Canteen but I won't be going back after having two bad experiences in a row.
The service at The Banana Tree Canteen is terrible - and it really annoys me that it takes the staff an age to bring back your change after you have paid the bill. Almost as though they are forcing you to tip them when they don't even deserve the standard 10% service charge!!
All I can say is don't do it...in the past I have had a couple of geat meals at the Banana Tree Canteen but this was all completely spoilt on our last visit. I'm not sure if they have changed staff but the customer service was appalling! The Banana Tree Canteen may be cheap but it still isn't worth it.
Went to the Banana Tree Canteen with a few friends and had a nice evening. The waitress dealing with us was very polite and the food was tasty and not too expensive.
Would recommend the Banana Tree Canteen.
