A friend of mine recommended this place. It looks quite random from the outside but it has a wonderful atmosphere. The food and service were both amazing, and it is extremely good value for money! We had absolutely beautiful, fresh, clean oysters which were only £4 for five perfectly shucked. I then had one of the specials wihch was grilled half lobster with salad and some of their signature bean/broth side. It was so, so tasty and very reasonably priced. My husband had grilled black pig which was just so flavoursome and smoky and spicy and delicious. The place has to have the best fries in britain. Fresh strawberries with ice cream for dessert and some lovely Portuegese wine really set off the meal. I think the 3 courses with wine cost us £50 for the two of us. You will be hard pressed to find better value anywhere. I'm so glad my friend recommended this place to us now as I will come back all the time. We ate in the restaurant, which has white table-cloths and looks quite lovely but the majority of people seemed to be eating in the "outside" bar area wihch had a really convivial sort of atmosphere about it. There were also quite a lot of people eating tapas at the bar, which looked fun. The only downside to this place is the location, which, if you aren't local, can be a bit of a mission to get to as it's not terribly close to Vauxhaul or any other station. I tihnk next time we will get a cab from Waterloo as it's not that far.

Bar Estrela dishes up yummy Portugese food and is great in the summer when there's plenty of outside seating to help you imagine you actually managed to make it on holiday this year. I especially enjoyed Bar Estrela's steamed clams, and the spicy chorizo sausage. Divine.

Bar Estrela is one of a number of places we could have picked along this road. However Bar Estrela stood out the most and we were glad we picked it. The service was good and the waiters look great!
