Worst restaurant experience I've ever had. I'm astounded some users have given this place decent reviews. We bought the tapas for 2 option on GroupOn for around £15. Lots of bread and olives was basically what arrived as the vege option. We ordered 3 more tapas from the menu - the calamari was soggy and tasted chewy and the other dishes were very disappointing. In total we only spent about £28 but still was a total rip off.
My advice is to avoid at all costs.
Booked this 'restaurant' using Groupon. We chose the meat tapas option, which turned out to be three plates of of meat: chorizo, jamon and salchichon, with bread. If this was authentic Spanish food, then I'm the Man from La Mancha! The so called Sangria was lemonade, with a splash of red wine. Where was the alcohol? The service was very poor from the start - when we entered and announced that we had a Groupon reservation, the disparaging response was reponse was 'I know'! This was the poorest dining experience that I've ever had!
You've been warned!
This restaurant is a nice place for a quick bite after work.
The restaurant décor is great; the Spanish images of Matador coats and Spanish lizards are as quirky as its waiters. The music was classy; they played a mixture of upbeat and smooth jazz (not the cheesy variety) which broke the cliché of normal Tapas restaurants.
The food was fairly average considering that places like Jamon Jamon and La Tasca are also offering the same dishes, although I must admit the Champiñones al Ajillo was very tasty. The house Rioja was fruity and delicious. The prices were competitive but the platters were overpriced considering the food was adequate.
It's not the easiest place to get to. It’s hiding from the world which is a shame. I was positioned by the window which has a fantastic view of a grey car park which vaguely reminded me of a scene from an East End gangster film.
Overall, a fairly average dining experience.
The fact that we paid £103 for two people (and that was after a two-for-one discount on the food was applied!) for what could at best be described as mediocre-quality food, most likely straight out of the microwave, should say it all. It is simply extortionate in light of the poor quality of the food.
We had 8 tapas, dessert, a £24 bottle of wine, and an extra glass of wine. Positives first, the platter of cured meat and the plate of cheese were nice. The remaining 6 tapas ranged from poor to mediocre in quality. The calamaris were chewy, the patatas bravas soggy, the vegetable stew greasy, the pork stew dry, the bread (which you have to pay for) stale, and the mussels tasted off. All 8 tapas were served at the same time (about 3 minutes after we ordered, hence our suspicion that the food was microvawed, a suspicion further supported by the look and chewiness of the food) on a tiny bistro table for 2. This made it very uncomfortable for us and some of the food was even placed on the window sill by the waitress.
Moving on to service and the ambiance. Service was brisk and no attention was paid to us after the dishes were delivered to our table. We therefore had to deal with a cramped table full of dirty dishes for most of the night. Ambiance is that of a canteen; the place is brightly lit and noisy as it also serves as a bar. It is also located near to a car park and for most of the night cars were flashing their lights straight onto our table. I won’t even comment on the dubious cleanliness of the bathroom and the total absence of hand soap.
In a nutshell, I would recommend that everyone steers well, well clear of this place. I know I will.
I love this restaurant! They had some really delicious authentic tasting tapas. I really liked the stuffed peppers and the different cured hams. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this place!
Try the cheese and cured hams! SO GOOD
Thought they had some really delicious and unique dishes. I really enjoyed the atmosphere as well. It was really cool and fun! Will be coming back for more and I would love to try some of their other locations
"Hora Loca" - happy hour - lasts at the Barcelona Tapas Bar y Restaurante from 5-7 on weeknights (the place is closed on the weekend). Some lovely wines are on offer here, and from what I can gather, the food at Barcelona Tapas Bar y Restaurante is right up there as well.
Barcelona Tapas Bar y Restaurante really impressed me. Gorgeous food, great service and a lovely relaxing atmosphere. Had a fantastic night.
I cannot recommend Barcelona Tapas Bar y Restaurante highly enough.
