The ViewLondon Review
Bayee Village is a traditional Oriental restaurant that comes complete with its own separate cocktail bar. Its location, size, prices and quality make it an ideal start for group celebrations, made welcome by the friendly staff. The VenueBayee Village is a traditional oriental restaurant and cocktail bar in the heart of trendy Wimbledon Village. The cocktail bar is just to your left as you enter the building, with a large expanse of space designated for dining. Expect a modern feel with a traditional edge – white tablecloths, attractive oriental wall decoration and a swathe of blacks and reds create an authentic vibe perfect for dining and drinking. The division of the venue into distinct areas is perfect for private hire or if you’re not into overly crowded venues. The aptly named Hong Kong Room seats up to 40 with the main dining room allowing for 90 covers.
The AtmosphereAlthough typically a traditional oriental style, there is something very modern about this restaurant, and this is evident in the crowd it attracts. The bar, reasonable prices, location and size of Bayee Village make it a popular place for parties, including the inevitable hen and stag do's. However, there's an air of sophistication thanks to the attractive setting and location – this is no Leicester Square, after all! Service is quick, efficient and friendly and a resident pianist Monday-Thursday rounds things off nicely.
The FoodThe menu is varied and has a great selection of all the dishes one would expect in an Asian restaurant, alongside some more unique signature dishes that set the style of Bayee Village. Set dining starts at £25 per head, with six dishes including soup, crispy aromatic duck, and griddled sizzled beef with spring onion and ginger. Appetisers cost from £4.50 and seafood £8.20. A dish of kung po king prawns with sweet chilli sauce and garlic is a particularly popular choice. Meat dishes range from £6.90, (beef with green pepper in black bean sauce), special fried rice is £4.65, and egg fried rice £3. Lunches are priced from £7.50, making this a reasonable choice for dinner.
The DrinkThere is a good choice of drinks available in the bar, a diverse cocktail list ranges from £6.20, with spirits and a mixer costing a mere £3.90. A glass of house Champagne is £6.50 or £29.95 a bottle. If you really want to splurge, a bottle of Dom Perignon 1999 will set you back £138. A good selection of wine is also on offer, with the house coming in at £3.90 a glass or £14.50 a bottle.
The Last WordGreat food, excellent service and a plethora of bars and pubs nearby, Bayee Village is a great choice to start an evening out.
