We ate there after going to the National Theatre. I ordered the gurnard, the waitress took the order and then came back to say it was off the menu. I asked if I could have the monkfish starter as a main course. She said that was fine, took the order and then came back to say monkfish was off too. Why not cross it off the menu if you haven't got any left? My kids had the steak (good), the risotto (fine) and my husband had the venison (tasted of nothing and tough). I had the soup. Won't be going back.
A friend and I booked for a large party in the bar area on a busy Saturday night. All the staff were terrific, taking our drinks orders and running back and forth cheerily. There's a creative cocktail list and all the drinks were delicious. It's a laid back hassle free place, cosy and friendly and much quieter than most cocktail bars so you can hear yourself talking!
Good points: nice atmosphere, great location, friendly staff, good visual presentation of the food.
Bad points: expensive (typical main course £15) and food portions variable: those who ate beef got off well, however all the chickens seemed to have died of starvation and the vegan risotto was (quite literally) a plate of rice and peas, the size of a side order, for £13! Same issue over deserts, some were large (eg crumble) whilst others were a tiny (eg raspberry shortbread). All for the same sort of price.
Alas, we agreed we wouldn't be going back.
I booked a space in their lounge for my birthday party and it was the right choice!
The staff is wonderful, the food is great and the atmosphere is unique!
I will definitely come back!
My partner and I visited this lovely cool venue last week and had a great time. We arrived a little early and went to the bar for a drink 1st and the entertaining barstaff served up a couple of fantastic Mojitos. After moving into the restaurant we were sat in a great location by the windows. The menu is a little on the small side and the wine list on the large side but the food we had was delicious. I ate the squid for starter and my partner had the goats cheese salad. Our mains were sea bass and pousin chicken with chorizo. We couldn't really fault the food to be honest. There was some live music on also which was unexpected and gave a nice touch to the evening. We wil be going back and taking friends next time.
Just popped in on Saturday (11th Feb), for a quick bit to eat. There were 5 in our party, including a 6 year old, so we opted for the 'build your own chip butty' - OMG what an amazing concept, delivered with total uniqueness.
Value for money - outstanding - we must have had the equivalent of 2 potatoes each and the very very freshest bread. It made for any amazing experience.
How can anyone get so excited about a chip butty - I challenged anyone to try it.
We did, we loved it!
Thanks
Spent Saturday night at Benugo and had a great time. The bar/sofa area at the back it almost feels like a house party with live music and waitress service. Pretty chilled out 25+ age group, ideal place to have drinks before heading somewhere else, although a shame they are not open a little later than 11.
Benugo Bar is a lot of fun and although good for a couple of after-film drinks it's also a lot of fun if you want to stay there for the evening. We were meant to go and see that Andy Warhol flick but other than Siena Miller it sounded like plop so we stayed in Benugo... And I reckon that was a good idea.
My girlie and me went to the Benugo Bar and Kitchen for a quick bite before Premonition. I am very glad to say that the food at Benugo was far, far better than the film which was terrible. Don't go to see that utter twaddle, but do go to Benugo.
