The ViewLondon Review
Beyti is a treasure trove of tasty Turkish treats.
The Venue
The venue is small and has little curb appeal, but inside it’s clean and well-equipped. The Turkish grill and counter dominates the entrance, surrounded by a few small wooden tables for couples and groups.
The Atmosphere
Beyti is a generally a cheerful place, small and usually packed with members of the large Turkish community that populates the area. There’s a respectful air that is more suited to families than a young, boisterous crowd.
The Food
Beyti stands out from the abundance of Turkish restaurants in Hackney for its fish dishes – advertised prominently on a whiteboard above the counter – and the calamari is particularly excellent. That by no means detracts from quality or breadth of the meat dishes on offer. Lamb kofte are succulant and well-seasoned and most dishes come served with salad and rice.
The Drink
The standard soft drinks are on offer and there isn’t a corkage fee at this unlicensed restaurant. Though coming by a beer isn’t too tricky, this part of Green Lanes boasts several off-licences.
The Last Word
Beyti is definitely up there with the best of Hackney’s Turkish eateries, but it does lack some of the hospitality and vibrance that its neighbours have to offer.
