Absolutely dreadful. Yes it looks nice and the service is attentive if forgetful but the food was very average. Once you factor in the price you have a particularly disappointing mix.
I have had far better Thai food for a quarter of the price and the decor does not make up for that.
The Blue Elephant was really good, loved the food, atmosphere and experience was excellent it was a real treat. The service was nice and attentive but not overly invasive. The prices is steep, but I guess its that type of restaurant . I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a good Thai restaurant.
Really authentic and delicious food. good atmosphere and location. But very small portions for quite a high price. worth it as a special treat but not a regular haunt.
Good food, nice environment decent service but it was expensive too.
The Thai fishcakes were lovely, and chicken satay was tasty. The main duck dish was juicy tender had a sweet and sour taste this was served with boiled rice.
The meal itself was good but it did cost me a bomb. However I left satisfied.
My wife and I also had a very sub par evening at the Blue Elephant (late Nov 2008 - Maybe it was better before?). Chicken in the main course was very dry, and one of my wifes prawns was uncooked! Really very poor. I tried to resolve the issue with a few emails, and was eventually offered a bottle of house champagne on my next visit by way of recompense. Hardly likely! This is clearly trading off its good name earned in the past. My advice would be to steer well clear. On subsequent conversations with others that have visited, I find their experiences equally scathing. I wonder what all the fuss about this place is about? Poor.
This evening I took four business associates / friends to the Blue Elephant at Fulham Broadway. This is the second time I have been there. The setting is quite impressive - almost to the point of being a gimmick - and makes for a fun evening. However, this is the second time that I experienced the services is out right rude. First we decided to sit in the lounge and have a drink. However, this turned out to be quite a long ordeal as no one came to serve us after we had been seated and assured someone would come. When I finally went to fetch the waitress (who was hanging out at the bar actively ignoring us), she was quite annoyed that I was bothering her (there were only two other customers there at the time, so I figured it was not really putting her out). But, since we had been waiting for 15+ minutes without any attention I did not know what else to do. Then, at the table it was the same all over. First we sat for near 20 minutes without any sign of attention. Only when I started to get up to find someone did the waitress come by. Except for serving the wrong drinks (we ordered wine by the glass, and they brought out ones that we had not ordered), not offering a single smile throughout the meal, and generally seeming quite bothered by our presence, what annoyed me the most was her refusal to put the net sum of the bill on my card. I must admit I had not intended to leave a tip at all at this point, but if a customer asks, should the waitress not allow him to pay the tip in cash and leave the rest on the card? Well, this waitress told me that there was nothing she could do to help if I wanted to pay by card. Most importantly, the food was the real kicker. They have quite high prices for Thai, and the quality is sub-par compared to most Thai places in London (with the exception of the presentation - they do make the food look very good before you start eating it). I am sad to say, this is going to be one of the very few restaurants not to revis
A la carte- nice, tasty and pretty varied
Buffet- don't be tempted to pay less and go for this mediocre buffet, it really is not what quality thai food is all about. It's like "eat as much as you like" type of buffet with the subsequent poor quality. And I DO love Thai food.
My wife and I had our anniversary at Blue Elephant. Their food was terrific. The environment was excellently elegant. I mentioned I prefered the table in quiet and non-smoking area, and we were allocated to one table just as we expected! We were explained to every dishes and the right way to have them, as this was our first time having Thai food. The service was fabulous, too. All in all, I strongly recommend it as an ideal choice for your special occasion.
