I visited Blue Ginger Bar Restaurant on Wednesday last week with a few colleagues of mine who were visiting from Europe and wanted to have a nice Indian meal while in uk. On the recommendations of one of the local hotel I took all of them there. At first it all looked felt ok and our starters were served in reasonable time but from that point it was all downhill. The service on the whole was hopeless! The staff were not interested in serving us we had to ask several times for basic thing like water, cutlery etc. The main course was horrible and luke warm. To make the matter worst while we were having our meal one of the staff members started vacuuming, we had to ask 3 time for them to kindly stop but everything seemed to fall on deaf ears as they continued with it. The staff clearly lacked leadership and guidance and I think there were a couple to managers / supervisors were around but they all seemed ignorant to what the team was doing. All they were interested in was finishing their shift and going home. I felt very embarrassed in taking my colleagues to Blue Ginger Bar Restaurant never again. Not A restaurant to visit!
Personally, I do not agree with all the comments listed below.
Food is better than any other Indian restaurant in the area.
It is a busy place, so you can't expect to be served straight away.
I bet you've all been back since...
Another Blue G fan :)
Went to Blue Ginger last night with my family, mother and children. Had a terrible meal from start to finish. Service was extremely slow having to try and get a waiters attention all the time. We waited nearly half an hour for them to bring my young daughter a fruit cocktail drink having brought the rest of my family's drinks ages beforehand. The food was overcooked, greasy and expensive, especially any grilled meat. During our meal we tried to catch the waiter to tell him this but was then subjected to a very abusive man. At the end of the meal we called the Manager over who was even more unhelpful telling us that it their policy to never refund any customers for food that they do not like and if we do not like their service then to go elsewhere! How lovely! Never in all my life have I had such atrocious service or spoken to aggressively by restaurant staff, especially being women. My mother and I actually felt quite threatened. This is one restaurant never to go to!! To top it all, we have had upset tummies during the night and following day!!! Do not mark this restaurant as a place go
Me and my wife visited here a day before Valentine's day 2012. The service was OK, but didn't really listen to what we wanted, and couldn't change many of the dishes to mild if we wanted. Which kind of indicated its all pre-cooked.
The food didn't taste too great, and we could tell it wasn't tasting very fresh. That evening when we got home, within 1 hour we were feeling sick, vomiting, and had Diarrhoea. We both had to rest for the next whole day, and couldn't eat or drink anything. That day was Valentine's day - thanks Blue Ginger.
We phoned the restaurant the next day and spoke to the manager: Tanveer. He wasn't very helpful, and implied we may have something on the way home!? However we emphasised it happened straight after visiting the Blue Ginger. He said he would look into the matter and ring us back. Typically he hasn't done so - he was very arrogant too.
I wouldn't ever go here again and wouldn't recommend others to either. Food used to be good, but dunno what they are doing behind closed doors now. Its definitely not fresh food or freshly cooked, he even admitted its batch cooked, which doesn't sound good as we are vegetarians.
This is a very fast food place to eat in. In the past I have been out in less that an hour. Last week we were out is 35 min they just don't care and the food is served at a speed to get you out!! ASAP. The food is OK. They are faster that MacDonald's.
I attended this restaurant on Friday 2nd September, overall I had a bad experience. Below is a detailed account of my evening so you can form an opinion for yourself wether you would like to visit this restaurant or not.
Visited the restaurant at 21:00 hrs however did not get seated until 21:30, I waited 20 minutes for the waiter to take our order, that was after I tried to get thier attention a number of times. So now at 21:50 for starters I ordered Masala Mogo and Lamb Chops.
Masala Mogo was fresh and contained a lot flavour using a nice blend of spices that created a sweet but sour fusion on my pallet. The lamb chops, some was overcooked / burnt with charcoal which created a rubbery texture however to my dismay the chops seemed to be covered with a very thick paste that left a coating over my tongue.
For mains I ordered, chicken machoozi. Chicken machoozi was nice similiar to traditional indian home cooking and again a balanced blend of aromatic spices that was pleasent on the pallet.
I complained to a waiter whom confirmed to the manager of the bad service I recieved throughout the evening however the manager decided to dismiss my comments and failed to apologise.
The most damming moment of my evening was when I was driving home, my stomache was unsettled for at least 12 hours and I resisted puking up. I can only assume the culprit was the lamb chops that I stopped eating after consuming the awful paste.
Worst restaurant in the whole on London. If you want to fall sick eating there 1 minute instant food which is not cooked properly, then this is the place to go. They don't know how to make chilli chicken or chicken lollipop. Chicken chilli was chicken pieces in tomato curry with a green chilli to give it a feel of chicken chilli. Paneer tikka masala was a 1 minute instant tikka masala which comes in a packet. I would sincerely advise you not to visit this restaurant.
I agree with others, this place should get a negative rating.
I would give it a zero rating. rubbish food & inflated prices. Ordered jeera chicken for starters but got something like jeera chiken curry with lots of gravy. i couldnt make out if it was a starter or main meal. taste awful and very pricey. Asked for a mukhwas after a meal and one of the staff in the bar area was arrogant and rude.
We should be allowed to give zero star rating! That's what I think of Blue Ginger Bar Restaurant. My friend and I went there to watch footy, all good, ordered food and it came out in 10 mins or so. Everything was going well. Chicken had streaks of blood and was chewy, half cooked. The naan was cold and looked it was from a supermarket. I pointed this out to the waiter and he very kindly said he would get me another serving. 5 mins later my food comes back out and to my surprise it was the same plate with the same food but just re-heated in the micowave - they thought I had complained that it was cold (the naan was but the chicken was not cooked). So I just said I would be happier if they took those items off the bill and I wouldn't eat. Time to pay, guess what? I spoke to the manager and he implied I was making excuses. The bottom line is, blue ginger used to be a very good establishment but god knows what's happened to it, they need to look at themselves and sort it out or they will go bust one day. Best of luck but I shall not be returning there. Poor food , poor service. Great waiters that don't understand English. Ap

Hey, Blue ginger is a fantastic place to go and relax with friends and family... If its just a social drink or a bday.
Ive been plenty of times the decor is nice and u feel comfortable, although i feel the food is a bit over priced, i wouldnt mind paying for it, because i rather have quality.I feel all the staff of blue ginger are fantastic and very helpful, apart from one women who stands by the door, find her very rude and she dont stop starring at people!
Maybe, its to do with the barrier of not speaking english properly! One of the owners came to us I believe his name was Ketan, he was very attentive, polite, helping around like his part of a wonderful team.
(sometimes when we go to nice places like blue ginger you tend to find the managers are very up themselfs and think they are above everyone)!
I liked the way the Ketan came around to see if everything was going good and if there was anything he could help us with.
Ketan u have a wonderful team and keep up the hard work, looking forward to my next visit, which should be celebrating my bday.Thank you for readng my comments.
Those who have left a negative comment, try going with a open mind and trust me u will enjoy a thousand times, better then u have.Mind you sometimes theres no pleasing people and some are simply jealous of someones doing.
WELL DONE BLUE GINGER AND THE WHOLE TEAM.xxxx
Fantastic food at a good price! Reasonable decor and very nice cocktails. The restaurant had a comfortable atmosphere and is a nice to place to visit with family, friends or a partner. However, it is important to book a table in advance, a friend and I visited the restaurant on a wednesday (without booking) and were told to expect a waiting time of 45 minutes! The service was very good though and we were seated within 20 minutes, during which time we sat at the self service area and enjoyed a few drinks.
I also want to commend their desert menu! When was the last time you saw cheesecake on an indian desert menu?..It doesn't happen very often and was great to see.
Overall, blue ginger is worth going to, whether its for the drinks or the food.
Been blue ginger a few times and trust me it dont get better..Dont get me wrong this place has a very nice decor and is great to go have a few beers and watch the football, but when you get a bit pekish dont bother ordering the food unless your totally wasted..
If you have been to some other restaraunts in the area and compare you will soon realise..I mean who can have a chicken masala or a keema ready on your table within 10 minutes ( i dont think so)..And this morning i dont feel to good..
The only reason i went was because a family member came to visit us and wanted to go ( she had been recommended by a friend who lives up north)..It seems to me all the good press come from people living up north who dont have a clue about similar restaraunts in the area..
And another thing i ordered a mocktail from the drinks menu and it was totally awful and tasting of coconut..I asked the waiter that i have an allergy towards coconut and that there may be some coconut in the drink, he then called the head waiter who took rather personally stating there was no coconut in there..He came back 3 times showing me the menu, explaining and even demonstrated mixing fresh cream and pineapple to why i had the coconut taste..I never even asked him 2 replace the drink or refund it(which he should have) but he kept on disturbing us returning to the table..
Went to Blue Ginger with a group of friends for an evening meal a few days ago. It was a very, very disappointing experience.
Decor and seating was okay, but the food was a big let-down. A rather high content of salt in virtually all the dishes ordered. Good chefs never use this quantity of salt to make tasty dishes. Complained to the waiter, changed a couple of the dishes but still a very poor effort and the waiter dismissed the complaints, saying that it was normal!
Coupled with rather higher prices and somewhat smaller portions than expected, it was definitely a waste of money.
Blue Ginger Bar Restaurant has great food and ambience. It really calls for another visit, everytime you go there.
Blue Ginger Bar Restaurant has excellent Food, great service, and superb ambience! Kudos to the Blue Ginger team, especially the Manager for his customer service.
Went to the Blue Ginger Restaurant with a group of friends on a Saturday and I would definitely not recommend it.
Some of the main 'highlights' on the evening were; they took over an hour to seat us even though we had booked, half the starters came after half an hour and the rest came after an hour (although they did taste good when they finally came). Then the mains took an incredible 2 and half hours and were overcooked!
To add to this, the service was non existent and when we complained to the manager about the wait he was rude and argumentive and offered a measly 10% off the bill. The staff seemed too busy to cope will the level of customers and very unwilling to offer any explanation or apology as to why everything was taking so long or how long anything would be. Never again Blue Ginger!
I am quite suprised to find so many negative comments about Blue Ginger. I come from Leicester and have been there many times before and each and every time I have had a pleasant experience.
I found the staff to be very helpful, they don't nag you to get to your table if you are on the sofas having a few beers. True, some of the staff are not 'fluent' in cockney but they do offer a prompt and efficient service. You only have to go there on a Friday and Saturday night to see how they cope with so many people. As for their knowledge on drinks, it's no more ignorant than some Londoners' knowledge of anything north of Toddington service stations...
Trust me, the food at Blue Ginger is fantastic and it's worth every penny.
If you fancy going out for a night, and wasting your time and money, Blue Ginger Bar Restaurant is the place for you. I encountered rude staff, much of whom can't speak great English, and tend to forget why they write orders down.
Will never set foot back in the Blue Ginger Bar Restaurant. The decor does not suit the place at all. By the way, when the waiters say 5 minutes there, it's actually 20 minutes. Could go on about how terrible I found this place, but will leave it for you to decide if you wish to.
Decor at Blue Ginger Bar Restaurant is pleasant, but overly done with the modern outlook, and does not suit the type of restaurant that it is.
The food is in the name, far too much ginger! Maybe Blue Ginger Bar Restaurant would improve if they employed fully English speaking staff who know more about alcohol too.
Blue Ginger Bar Restaurant has atmosphere at all. It looks like an Ikea showroom. It took the waiter at Blue Ginger Bar Restaurant what felt like a lifetime to take our order and another lifetime to bring the food. The vegetables were still frozen when they got to us. As for the cocktails? Water with sugar in, more like it.
If you like Indian cuisine you should definitely try Blue Ginger Bar. The food is beautiful and the atmosphere's great.
Blue Ginger Bar definitely gets the seal of approval from me!
