As much as I enjoy going to the Blue Legume for Dinner - and no, stoky poky, i don't work for them as opposed to your assumption- i must say that the comment about the service in the morning is horrendous.
As lovely as the breakfast offers are, for some reason the owner cant seem to decide how to serve people.
you order at the counter, which forms a huge queue because there is no menu to sit down with, you have to crane your neck to see whats written on some wall, you take a seat (the guy that just serves you doesn't know where you're going to sit...), and wait. there are about 3-4 waitering staff buzzing around, neither of them seems to be working in a designated section. your cappucino and americano will be brought to 4 different tables before it makes its way to yours. same goes with the food.
while having breakfast, you will be encountered another at least 3-5 times with the fact that the waitress (its always a different one) simply doesnt know what each table ordered, therefore bringing wrong food and drinks to your table!
Possible solution for the management- get a system! 1 person in the back, one in the front, 2 behind the bar! you order from the waitress, who should know the tables by numbers, and you pay at the counter!
as for myself, breakfast is not an option anymore in this place, its not relaxing. Dinners are great- its reasonably quiet, there is tableservice, food is fast and delicious.
Bottom line- great an night! If you're after breakfast, make sure you bring lots of patience and time!
..also doesn’t help that they have seemingly done their own 3 paragraph advert within the user review section and kindly given themselves 5 stars. Not very good for customers trying to objectively see what the restaurant rating is
Didn’t have a great brunch. Food was good, which is why i returned from previous visit, but service was terrible. They must have forgot my order, they served the table to my left before me (who had ordered the same food) even thought they ordered 30 mins after i had ordered. When i pointed it out they just said mine was on its way. I didn’t get an apology.
The food is fine but wouldn’t go back after this, there are plenty of places to chose from on church street with better service than this.
originally discovered as a breakfast place, we soon found out what else the blue legume had to offer- from a huge variety of both healthy and hearty breakfast choices, including a goats cheese omelette that was simply bursting in flavour, to awesome dinner deals such as the 'paella for two, plus a bottle of wine for 20£', there is nothing you cant find on the menu of the blue legume!
the freshly squeezed juices are beautiful and so are the desserts and cakes in display, ranging from the traditional carrot cake to more unusual creations such as tangy lime and lemon cheese cake. but whats more- not only are its produces mouth watering, the service is excellent too!
we have always been looked after promptly, served by knowledgeable staff that fulfilled all our wishes with patience and confidence.
we ended up making the paella and wine night a regular thing, partly because the lady that works night shifts has become our favourite waitress in the area.
bottom line- dont miss this cosy place in the middle of church street, enjoy sitting in the evergreen framed conservatory, indulge in a big breakfast or a delicious paella, and last but not least- relax, as the prices are unusually low for the quality and taste of both food and drinks!
Finally tried the Blue Legume a few weeks ago and was really impressed. I had Eggs Benedict which was delicious, and the service was good.
Definitely intend to head back to the Blue Legume.
