This wonderful little place is a hidden gem tucked in the backstreets of a leafy part of Vauxhall. I cannot recommend this place to enough people!

It is not gourmet, but it is not meant to be. The food is hearty and healthy and whenever I have been, has been tasty and perfectly cooked. There isn't much presentation in the plating, but who cares?! It doesn't style itself to be pretentious.

It's hippy in atmosphere, with higgledy piggledy furniture and fairy lights, and a warm, friendly welcome waiting for you. I love it!

The menu changes every day because the cooks are all on rotation, and whilst there is only a couple of options for each course, the food will be yummy and incredibly cheap! And of course, washed down with your own bottle of wine (no corkage charge), it is really a great place to eat.

We've also sat outside before with candles and flowers on the table, and the service is really good considering the kitchen is minuscule and the place is always packed.

Make sure you book because of how busy it gets. I really believe this place proves that vegetarian food can be truly scrummy and with so many people there every day, we can't all be wrong!

It doesn't go to zero stars; what a shame. Terrible service, but the food is even worse.

Vegan food can be delicious: fresh, flavorful and wholesome. For that you would have to go somewhere else.

The Bonnington Cafe pride themselves on serving austere food -- which turns out to be unfit even to feed to animals.

We had chickpea-and-nut vegan balls which we choked down after slathering them with oil; and "vegan wellington" -- sawdust fresh from the mill, apparently -- which we simply could not ingest.

They found a couple of leaves somewhere and presented them as a salad, and also smashed a boiled potato for us.

No dressings; no salt or pepper; no flavour of any kind. This is a disgrace to vegans everywhere.

With so few vegan restaurants out there, the Bonnington should make some effort to make real vegan food, not careless slop.

Slop was presented within two minutes of ordering: then we were abandoned to our fate. We could not obtain the bill and had to leave money on the table.

i am genuinely shocked!

bonnington is known, among many many many of my friends as the mecca of fantabulous food, made on premises, from recipes so magical and unknown that we anxiously wait every two weeks for the new Sunday night ( Sun night jams with music and Vegan food with Anat).

tasty, amazing, new, creative, so many adjectives come to mind... and so shockingly cheap! (13 GBP for 3 course meal with heavenly dessert).

pls come back one Sunday and listen to the live band... and i m more than certain you ll change your mind!

Hzer - are you sure you went to the same cafe? I have been going to Bonningtons cafe for years now, and have never once had a bad meal, or bad 'service' - it's a lovely way to enjoy good food, with great people, dedicated to the cooperative and to making eating a community and special event.

I have visited the Bonnington Cafe on numerous occasions over the years and the standards have gone downhill steadily. It all depends who you get as a cook on the night you book to go. I have had fabulous meals and wonderful service in the past, but recently I have had cold, inedible, soggy, meagre portions that do not reflect value for money at all. Service is chaotic and you can well expect to be moved half way through your meal to another table upstairs where you will be left to contemplate the grubby walls or the corner of a room for 40 minutes whilst the staff downstairs attend to all the diners and have evidently forgotten all about you. I waited for service to complete my meal for over 40 minutes and even reminded the young lady in charge that I was waiting but finally, hungry and exhausted I had to leave the dear old Bonnington Cafe. The problem is that the cafe has become a big hit with yuppies who think its shabby chic appeal and cheapo menu are a good night out South of the river even though local curry houses offering vegetarian dishes are comparartive in price and better quality. These are the new clientele of the Bonnington Cafe, the people that quaff wine downstairs and talk in loud, shrieking voices, steadily getting drunk. As for the food, I haven't had a good meal at Bonnington for some years. The last meal I tried to eat was stone cold, a congealed mass of leftovers slopped onto a plate, like a dish of microwaved vomit. The salad was a few brown, withered leaves offered without any dressing, salt or pepper. It's such a shame that this unique little place has become so frequented by middle class pretend veggies that want to shout at the top of their plummy voices as the wine affects their behaviour. The people who run the place must be laughing at such customers who are expected to pay for substandard fodder and also leave a tip! Do yourself a huge favour and don't bother to visit thew Bonnington - its a real disappointment.
