You’ll find yourself falling in love with Bootys Riverside Bar for the oddest of reasons, be it the charm of watching the Thames flow by, the walls covered in random photos, poems and newspaper clippings, or the lively banter between the couple who run the place.

The Venue
Bright plum paint and many, slightly mad looking plants make Bootys Riverside Bar catch your eye. The name comes from Dennis Booty - the professional boxer who made it his mission to turn the building into a decent pub. And he succeeded.

This is a cosy place with a great use of colour that livens up what would have been just a basic rectangular room. The floors are worn wood, the walls are rough and beige, but there is a large yellow framed window that takes up a whole wall, letting light stream through and lifting the place up a notch. There is also a lovely view of the River Thames. Sweet touches such as blue and white gingham tablecloths, random photo frames on the wall displaying pictures, songs and newspapers, and flowers on every table add delicate details and buckets of charm.

The Atmosphere
The staff at Bootys Riverside Bar are extremely warm and fun, making locals and visitors feel at home in their little haven. The lack of standing space and abundance of tables gives you the chance to sit down properly and relax, but isn’t ideal for a quick drink. There’s an element of peace obtained from watching the tiny waves of the river, and the place can be calm one moment whilst you sip your Bombardier, and lively the next when the live entertainment comes along.

The customers are an older crowd of sophisticated professionals who want to completely leave behind the stress of the office and relax.

The Drink
There are a surprising number of wines available, unusual for a simple pub but pleasing nonetheless. The list is detailed in flavour and delicacy, with bottles priced at £14-£30 from all regions and grapes. The usual beers are available on tap, and the house spirits are an absolute bargain at £2.60 for a double. Food is simple pub grub that looks rather plain but may satisfy a hungry stomach.

The Last Word
A quaint little find in the outskirts of London, Bootys Riverside Bar is perfect for a laid back drink by the river.
