Nice lovely, delicious quality food, well presented & perfectly served.
Good value, friendly & attentive staff will recommend it to friends.
Top class restaurant nice food lovely staff have to go back again & again. Excellent
Ridiculously overpriced, 'boil in a bag' factory food..... Well meaning staff and nice touch from the manager who comped two glasses of wine to my wife for messing up the order.. Watch out for the soup; micro-waved to a temperature approaching evaporation....!

Brasserie Vacherin is a lovely restaurant in Sutton Town centre. This is the restaurant we have been waiting for. No more travelling to the city for good food and paying extra for the same or less qulaity product. The food is fantastic, and the atmosphere is informal while maintaining an air of sophistication. We always receive a warm welcome, lovely fresh top quality food and excellent service, would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Simple steak no sauce - delicious
We were so excited about eating at Brasserie Vacherin being lovers of French food and thrilled that one of London’s top chefs had opened this restaurant in Sutton. Fine dining in Sutton is hard to come by so to have this restaurant on our doorstep was definitely a bonus. On arrival we were escorted to our table where we were seated. Unfortunately the table we were sat at constantly wobbled and we gave up trying to attract the waitress and fixed it ourselves with bits of paper from our pockets. Our order was taken and our drinks and starters arrived promptly. We then waited nearly an hour before our main course. The food was good but really nothing that special and the service was non existent – no one asked us if we had enjoyed the food which is the least you expect. My expectations were high and sadly I was very disappointed and so were my guests as we so wanted somewhere local with fine dining and excellent service. The pricing is at the higher end of the scale but if the food and service were top notch I would have happily paid. If you are charging 20% service added to the bill you expect excellent service. Please, please, please improve residents in the area need a local restaurant that is really good.
Finally Sutton has a restaurant worth talking about ... we took advantage of the midweek February offer of Steak Frites and a glass of wine for under £10 ... the steaks were cooked to perfection (one medium and one well done) and the glass of wine was of a high quality.
Service was attentive without being over bearing.
It wasn't particularly busy inside given it was a Thursday evening but this will no doubt change as word spreads.
One minor criticism is that the lighting is somewhat bright and this could be toned down a little to create a more authentic brassiere ambience (perhaps using candles to provide some of the light?).
Will definitely visit this restaurant again to try the a la carte menu.
As the previous reviewer noted, Sutton is in need of something other than pizza/pasta options. This has the makings of a regular haunt for me, and at less than 100yards of icy pavement from Sutton Station, my friends in smarter suburbs have no excuse not to join me.
Due to lousy weather one of our party could only stay for about an hour, so we regretfully skipped the starters and headed straight for the mains. One duck confit, and two pave steaks (it was too cold outside to contemplate anything lighter). My fourth star is for doing what was asked for with the two steaks (which included checking with my pregnant friend that she was clear that 'medium' would involve a bit of pink stuff in the middle). My 'very rare' was rightly interpreted as sealed to perfection on the outside, and moo-ing in the middle. I could do without the nonsense of pommes frite in a mini tin pail - whoever started that trend should be carefully sliced and deep-fried.
The vegetable sides were somewhat overpriced for the quality and quantity - a smart move would be to include a choice as part of the main dish. And put my pommes de terre on my plate at the outset.
The remaining three stars are for really excellent service (not in your face, but friendly, informed and efficient), a decent wine list, with options for half litre carafes and by-the-glass at the cheaper end of the spectrum across a good range, and a superb tarte tatin. This latter option is for two (friend number three having taken off by this point to battle the elements), and it is generously proportioned for at least that number. Next time however, I'm not sharing it, and I'm having the pot au chocolat on the side.
I was most excited when I heard that Malcolm John was opening a restaurant in Sutton. Having visited Le Cassoulet, I expected something good. Most importantly, Sutton is in dire need of something beyond pizza and pasta.
I'm sad to say that it was a bit of a disappointment. We were welcomed heartily by a man I suppose was the manager which boded well. However, having advertised the set menus on their website, there was then a note on the menu we were presented with which stated that these would not be available until January. Not great PR and perhaps not a savvy move as the restaurant was just about empty. Nevertheless, this was not enough to put us off - but the prices are mid end London prices - so expectations can, on that basis, be high.
The onion soup was good and the pork rillette went down well with one guest, but was found a little bland by the other. The duck confit was well cooked and tasty, but the other two main courses were a disappointment. First of all, the vegetarian choice is poor. This might be expected in a French restaurant in France, but in London? The staple goats cheese and onion tart was quite dry and uninspiring, though generous in size. The biggest surprise came with the whole sea bream, which whilst substantial, lacked taste and was, in fact, over cooked and dry. We ordered sides of frites and green beans. The frites were soggy and the beans a little limp. We didn't go for desserts or coffees.
The wine list was short, but focused.
I want this restaurant to succeed, but it has to up its game if it is to do well in Sutton. Many will be put off by the a la carte prices in any case, but it could become very popular with the very many commuters here if it serves excellent food with slick service. Given that it has just opened and the cost, I expected it all to be a little sharper. I will go back and I will write another of these reviews.
I'm just keeping my fingers crossed.
