We have only been once and here is our general review.
Great coffee and overall pleasant experience except for one of the waiters who was very rude. We were seated out the back and my girlfriend had to use the toilet. There are some stairs out the back that lead downstairs to a toilet. As she was coming back and the drinks had arrived at our table he rudely spoke to her saying that there are other toilets over there, three times, very loudly that the couple on the table next to us look in amazement at him. He has very rude. Seriously no need for it. We decided not to order any food and luckily had another waiter to pay our bill to. There is no need to talk to customers in this manner. Just politely point out where the correct toilet are.
I was at Brazas this weekend and was impressed at the type of food/ service that this guys offer.
I had a nice Portuguese beer and my girlfriend had what she described as a " piece of Portugal" in a large glass, both were very nice.
For starters I had the grilled chorizo, drizzled with honey, sitting on three pieces of toasted bread and the Haloumi Bruschetta...... both 5 stars.
The waiter George was very nice and reliable, he quickly asks if we had finished our starters and asked if we enjoyed, which we answered with a huge smile yes.
For our main meal we had the tuna steak with mash in some sweet herb dark sauce, and a half ( I could have eaten a whole) chicken, spicy.
Overall the meal was great, we enjoyed all of it, but the best part was the naughty part, :D we had a slice of the best ever nutmeg cheesecake and Marble cake.
I have recommended Brazas to all my friends and is just a shame they are in the far end of Brixton. I will be sure to return.
Went here on Saturday night, all of the meals were fresh, tasty, hearty and hot. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed, certainly no pretence. I would definately recommend this place to a friend, prob not the kind of place you'd get all dressed up for but I think that's the point.
Brazas has a very friendly, clean and inviting atmosphere. They have afantastic range of menu choice for both eat-in and take away across theMediterranean continent. I loved the idea of the kitchen being at the frontand open. Customers being able to watch their food being prepared and cookedis a definite plus. Food was delicious. The Greek salad was Crispy, freshand with just the right amount of seasoning and dressing. I went for thechargrilled salmon with an avocado and watercress salad. It was large andcooked to perfection. I could not resist the homemade chocolate and Bailey'scheesecake although I would have liked to see more Baileys and lesschocolate. Overall the feeling I got from visiting Brazas for the first timewas a friendly, family run gem that should be a definite visit for anyoneliving in the Brixton/Herne Hill/Tulse Hill area.
Service was really good, friendly & humorous at this local restaurant !
The contrast of my starter's - Chargrilled chorizo served with black honey syrup & toasted bread sweet & sour got my taste buds buzzing - Marvelous. My main meal of 9 oz Rib eye steak, balsamic beets & homade horseradish cream?served with brazas fried potatoes continued to enthrall the tongue. The meat was cooked to perfection with minimal fat on the edge of the meat. I had to leave some room for the sweet, homemade banoffee pie with added
swirls of cream and chocolate flake. Yum Yum.
I would most definitely visit again and recommend it to others to try.
We were very disappointed this evening. First of all, nobody was greeting when we went into restaurant. There are three people behind counter, probably two chef and a lady. They never looked at us and never say hi. One guy works as waiter but he was serving other customer, he looked busy. Those people behind a counter, they might not speak english but they should greet customer because they are working in front.
A guy served us but he was not so nice as usual, I guessed because he is busy. I ordered burger and my other half ordered peri peri chicken which is his favorite dish.
We were not sure about this evening already that time because this waiter was not so happy looking when we were choosing where to sit. He was saying there were a big group of people coming so he had to prepare the table or something.
If they behave like that, we were not welcome to stay there.
Well, disaster happened next. He asked ketchup for my burger and chips, he brought me as bottle of ketchup. It was not much in a bottle, so I tried to shake it so that I can get ketchup out.
As soon as I shaked it, the lid flew over and ketchup was all over me.
This waiter came with wet clothes and paper towel.
He told me he is more than happy to wash if i wanted but i said no.I would rather get discount(I didn't ask tho).
And food was not good at all, burger-meat was very small, just so big bread. Chicken was not cooked properly, it was still red bit left, you could get food poison. Salad was just nothing, it used to be nice and came in a big ball. But they changed...shame.
Periperi chicken was not marinated well..
When we first went there, it was fantastic but after 3years, food quality, customer service went down. Not good at all. Very disappointed.
We wont go back again, it is very shame because there is only one nice restaurant in local but not anymore.
Brazas is London's best kept secret.
Infact I was in two minds whether to write this review as I don't want it to become so popular that it becomes difficult to get a table... BUT the food is fantastic in this family run restaurant and it would be unfair to keep it a secret.
The mains of Peri Peri chicken, and steak are my two personal favourites, however lamb eaters have advised me that the lamb is delicious too.
As for the desert, the chocolate and bailey's cheesecake puts Gordon Ramsay to shame, and the Pavlova (Meringue) is better than any NZ or Australian die hard could hope to make. Be prepared for some calories, but it all tastes so good it somehow just doesn't seem to matter.
Finally, as other people have commented in previous reviews, what makes this place so special (in addition to the wonderful food), is the warm and friendly family who run the restaurant.
It is like a home away from home, and you are always made to feel welcome. In return for sharing this south London gem, all I ask is that you don't spread the word too far so that we can still always get a table whenever we go there!
