Small but perfectly formed, Breads Etcetera is the perfect antidote for the excesses of the night before. High quality food, relaxed atmosphere and great value for money it's no surprise that this is a popular haunt for the twentysomethings of Clapham.

The Venue
Breads Etcetera is a small, independent bakery specialising in organic, sourdough bread. This shop-cum-cafe on Clapham High Street showcases a great selection of their products, both breads and cakes. The outside display alone should be enough to tempt you inside although as the cafe itself is only small expect to have to wait for a table (it's worth it!).

The Atmosphere
Size and popularity conspire to mean that on a weekend Breads Etcetera is usually packed for breakfast, brunch, lunch and beyond. If you come in a small group expect to have to have to share a table and be prepared to harden yourself to the food envy of those waiting to be seated. Despite this Breads Etcetera manages to retain a wonderfully laid back and homely atmosphere. Sharing a toaster with strangers seems to break down some of the usual British reserve and you may well find yourself chatting to your fellow diners.

The Food
The concept is simple, £2.50 gets you all you can eat self service toast which you make in the toaster provided on every table. There is a good variety of freshly baked breads to chose from at the bread bar including multi seed and the highly recommended black olive. With just about any spread you could want also on offer, including some delicious jams and marmalades, Marmite, Nutella and lemon curd the combinations are almost endless! The sourdough bread is both delicious and substantial and you could easily make a meal out of this alone. However, the cooked breakfasts should not be missed and all come with the all you can eat toast offer included in the price. You can customise the baked eggs with up to three ingredients which then come topped with Gruyere cheese. The bowl may appear small but this is deceiving - the portion is generous and coupled with toast makes a hearty meal. If you prefer something a little lighter and more healthy then go for the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.

The Drink
Round off the hangover cure with an oversized cup of strong coffee. There is also a range of bottled juices if you are feeling a little more virtuous plus the free bottled mineral water is a nice touch.

The Last Word
A strong contender for the best brunch in London!
