Pushy touting, impolite service, commanding water, food tasted bland, and looked even worse. Ruined the feel of the evening and replaced it with embarrassment. No idea where the good reviews came from, maybe there's another restaurant with the same name? Stay away, if you value your time.
Went here for my anniversary with my boyfriend on Friday night 11/11/11, Food was nice and tasty had starters with poppadoms and mains with a bottle of red. Staff were really attentive and kind, the actual place it's self was clean and modern. The staff cut 20 % of our food bill and gave us a few free drinks which was a bonus something you would not get in a lot of places. The only criticism is that the place was a bit cramped so our table got knocked into a little bit. Overall lovely experience and lovely time thank you.
Me and some of my friends decided to go here for my friends 21st as the reviews seemed to be very good. Unfortunately we were quite disappointed the food was average and overpriced for what it was, as were the drinks! We were seated close to the door and one of the waiters stood behind me going in and out of the door to try and force people in to eat. This meant that we (and the food) got cold very quickly, we did ask politely if they could keep the door shut, to which they agreed but in fact they just carried on all evening. Not at all recommended.
I went to the Brick lane Clipper with my family and it was a brilliant experience. The food was really authentic and the service was excellent too. The waiters are really attentive and recommended some great dishes. One of the dishes I had was the Shahshlik Bhuna and it was one of the finest dishes I had since my trip to India.
The Brick Lane Clipper is the only restaurant in the street does not have a person trying to force people in. We were really intimidated while we were walking in Brick Lane and the touts blocking our way and trying to persuade us to go in.
When we come outside of Brick Lane Clipper we noticed there was nobody trying to convince us to go in and we took our time to look at the menu and realised the notice on the window which said "We are supporting the Councils no touting policy" and we decided to go in.
After the meal we were offered complimentary drinks for all by the management and we had Sambukas, Baileys, Amaretto and Brandy.
It was a fantastic experience and I will surely go there for my birthday.
My Review was 5 star sorry I missed that out.
You were Brill Clipper
Regards Rosemary
I would like to say a Big Thankyou to the Staff on visiting with my friends from M and S for the first time, nothing was too much trouble !!
The food was delicious
The Staff very attentive
Service brilliant
Everything was served immediately no waiting
One problem was being as we were all in our late 60's the Menu was very hard to see because of the dim lighting(which we like)but the words were very small and quite difficult to read even with glasses, that was our only complaint other than that.
Thank you for a lovely evening and the kind gesture of a complimentary drink.
We will be back.
Regards Rosemary
I went here last night with 3 of my friends for dinner. The restaurant itself was empty which was a bit offputting but we couldn't fault the service or the food- both of which were excellent. We had a lovely meal and the dishes were above and beyond what we would normally expect of a normal Indian.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant and would go back again.
Clipper really is one of fav restaurants in London. The staff are amazing and friendly, and recommend really great dishes. We go to Brick Lane Clipper regularly and I have never ever been disappointed with my food. I love the atmosphere as well and a visit here always cheers me up. It's got to the point now where I will not eat at any other Indian restaurant, I would feel like I was cheating on my boyfriend :) love clipper!
Went to this restaurant because of the great reviews. I have been to a few Indian restaurants on brick lane and although the food and service was good here, it didn't really stand out from any of the other places I've been to. Not sure what all the fuss is about.
We decided on the Clipper because of the reviews on this website and I am delighted to say that we were not disappointed. The staff were friendly and attentive but left us alone to enjoy our dining experience, only checking on occasion to see if all was ok. The food was hot and sizzling and extremely tasty. The portions were plentiful and we were full. We visited on a Friday evening around 7.30pm and hadnt' booked. Although the restaurant had a couple of tables already reserved we managed to get a table without any trouble. However, by around 8.30 it had started to fill quite quickly. We had our 13 year old son with us and they welcomed him in no trouble at all. I would definately recommend this restaurant. It had polite staff, good food, clean facilities, serves alcohol and takes various methods of payment. I would also mention that it is just a few minutes walk from Liverpool Street station and there are plenty of bars around this area.
Brick Lane Clipper has fantastic food at a very reasonable price! As an avid lover of Indian/bangladeshi cuisine, I was thrilled with the taste and quality of the dishes. It was some of the best butter chicken I've had in a long time. The waiting staff is fantastic and incredibly friendly- it was a wonderful experience overall that I definitely plan on having again in the near future. Highly recommended.
Saturday night, out on the town in the shoreditch area and we decided to head down brick lane area for a curry. I had previously read about the quality of the curry houses going down on the actual street itself and the increasing number of curry touts on the street trying to lure you in to their copy cat versions of 'authentic' restaurants.
We decided on Brick Lane Clipper based on a few website' reviews and were not disappointed. The waiters were polite and our designated waiter had really good recommendations for those who wanted to try something new on the menu and on the wine list.
All five of us agreed that this was one of the best indian meals we had all had in a long time and were especially impressed by the bill too. Definately warranted a generous tip and will be back for more reasonably priced quality food!!
I went to the Clipper restaurant with my friends when I come to London from Spain. I really enjoyed the food and the true curry experience of brick lane. The service was good and the waiter was very helpful because i did not know much about Indian or Bangladeshi food and the waiter recommended a really nice dish for me served in a sizzler. It was the best Indian dish i tried in a long time. I will be going back there with my friends and family for dinner again.
I love Clipper, the food is right on the staff are the best. I have read some of the reviews that people have put on here and yeah some of the place’s down Brick Lane have been there for years, and I am sure the food in those place's taste's great if you like the idea of people spiting in your food. Sorry if that has put anyone off but more then a few of my mates have worked in restaurants in brick lane, I know more so if you’re a police officer that walks in their, that this is what most of them will do. Also waiting 40 mins for food is not long at all, it's not a fast food restaurant, and by waiting I know my food has been freshly cooked and it is not what was left over from last night.
I am yet to have cold food from Clipper, it is always hot when I order my food, the starters, and the mains. The food always looks great and taste's even better then how it looks, unlike a lot of other places I have been I feel very at home in Clipper. I am not rushed in and out of the door again! So 5 star's for Clipper Staff, cleanness, and most importantly food! I will never eat anywhere else!
I am always up for trying new restaurants and because of such overwhelming choice, at times find it difficult to decide where to actually eat on Brick Lane. However my friend had recommended the Brick Lane Clipper as a great restaurant with many positives points, so whilst in the area I decided to check it out. Overall this was a really good dinning experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the King Prawn Razala a dish that I would highly recommend to anyone who dines there. The waiting staffs were subtlety friendly and made small talk at the right moments, they didn’t have the usual over pushy attentiveness of the waiting staff of some traditional Indian restaurants which can be somewhat annoying. The restaurant is relatively small but this creates an intimate atmosphere, the staff are amiable and warm giving it a real personal touch. The location is apt on the corner of Brick Lane, a stones throw from the local bars and the tube station, definitely a place to check out!
very poor food wasn't to hot when it finally arrived service was really slow thought we where never gonna get our food and portions where far too small for main dishes would never go back or recommend this place to anyone!
The food had no taste to it whatsoever! Really disappointing. Will not be returning.
Awful restaurant, awful decor, awful food, and well everything is off mark so everything to me was awful!!
We went to the clipper restaurant in brick lane last Thursday. The restaurant is very small with possibly only 20 seats or something but that was not a problem for us. The problem was the actual food we had. The starters accompanied with salad smelled horrible. The mains when they arrived (40 minutes later even when the restaurant was half empty) was luke warm and not cooked properly.
We ordered deserts before we had the meal but the disappointment with the starters and mains meant we had to cancel the desert order and left the place for good. Never again will I return to an unknown - newly opened restaurant like the clipper again! Try going for the ones that have been on Brick Lane for some time now, they dont disappoint!
First visited the restaurant a couple of months ago with family.
Was greeted by very warm and friendly staff who were extremely helpful and willing in assisting with queries around the dishes available and provided recommendations that had a personal touch.
Food was delicious and thoroughly enjoyed by all, very tasty and as explained and expected on ordering.
Have subsequently revisited several times with friends and workmates who have all thoroughly enjoyed the food and experience and have left with the opinion that when they return to Brick Lane it will be to Clipper restaurant.
Would recommend this restaurant to anyone planning on having a curry on Brick Lane, full marks.
Clipper is the best place I have ever been for a curry, and believe me I have tried many places.
Clipper is easy to find, the location is right along Brick Lane, and is close to many bars etc for a great night out before or after your meal.
On entering this restaurant, you are warmly welcomed by the staff who are more then willing to help with anything. The service is out of this world, staff are always near by and it is easy to get there attention for the smallest or biggest of things. The restaurant has a range of drinks and food which will please everyone.
The price of the food is great value for money.I myself have eaten here 7 times (this will soon be 8) in the last 4 mths, my friends can not wait for us to return and in fact I myself will be return next week for a birthday.
And on that note they do cater for all types of parties I had my own birthday meal here just last mth there was 13 of us, the staff were welcoming, the food was out of this world, the atmosphere was brilliant, my birthday and the meal was enjoyed by all.
I find myself counting down the days until I return next to this restaurant. This will be the only "Curry House" I will eat out of for the rest of my life, I love everything about this place.
I would also like to add on a final note that many restaurants I have been to have great food but not so great customer faculties (the toilets) however in Clipper when you walk into the customer faculties you get another out of this world feeling, they are so clean you could eat your food while you are using them. I have booked once again for my 8th time which will be the 19th (next week Saturday) of this mth.By Jade, East London.
I Went to clipper one late evening with a friend, brick lanes a confusing place to decide but the lovely waiter at the door convinced me.
Where do I start, every dish was recommended by the waiter and I was blown away by the exquitiveness and quality of the food.
King Prawn puri starter was excellent and the King prawn rezalla went down a treat.Overall would go back as this place is now my local, avoid the rest and go to Clipper.
The food, the service and the environment is excellent.I have been to many restaurants in the area and Brick lane clipper is miles above the rest.
Great Hospitality from Staff . Fantastic tasty food with great portions as well.
I would recommend this as a good nite out affordable and worth the money spent.
The food at Brick Lane Clipper is amazing. Really fresh, and the flavours are vibrant and delicious.
The service is wonderful, and the staff are friendly and helpful, particularly if you are unsure of what you want - their recommendations are spot on.
The restaurant is really clean and tidy, and the atmosphere is relaxed so it is ideal if you want a casual but still impressive meal. 10 out of 10!
Brick Lane Clipper has to be the best Indian I have had in a very long time.
The flavouring of the dishes are extremely well balanced and they taste magnificent.
Alongside that the service is brilliant and the waiters are smart, helpful and always have a smile on their face. This is my favourite restaurant in Brick Lane.
I have dined here many times and will continue to go back.
Relaxed ambiance, very friendly and attentive service and spectacular food.
A great place to enjoy a long dinner and a chat without being rushed. Highly recommended.
