We had a horrible experience at this place. It’s simply unbelievable how rude and unprofessional is the staff of Campania.
The three of us arrived at the place on a Sunday afternoon (approximately 4.30pm). Toolate for the luch (we already had one), too early for the dinner, this is why lots of seats were available. We decided to share a platter of charcuterie and cheese for two (12.50£) and some bread (1.50£), with the intention to eat something and then have some coffee later. The girl took the order, but 2 minutes later she came back and claimed that, although this usually happens only on Sunday, when the place is packed, what we ordered was not enough to deserve 3 seats in Campania. We needed to order a full lunch.
We just woke up and had a snack elsewhere, but I don’t think we’ll come back there again.
Stumbled upon this beautiful place last Saturday afternoon. It's the only busy spot on Columbia Road by the look of things.
We had some great cured meats and cheese boards, my friends had risotto & a great soup. It was just the perfect afternoon. Really cool place, great wine.
It's tiny but a great atmosphere, the kitchen is open so you can see everything. Definately will be going back for lunch during the week.
The sweetest most beautiful place in East London. Go for lunch and wine. The atmosphere is great, they have some brilliant italian cheeses and meats. I spent alot of time in Naples as a student and know that they have selected some great rare cheeses.
Try the mozzarella, it's amazing. The coffee is to die for and our dishes were great too. We had such a good afternoon.
It's a very italian environment with some loud italian staff but it's charming, not forced just very natural. We loved it.
As part of a recent visit to London we thought we'd treat ourselves to a special breakfast at Campania Gastronomia on Saturday morning. Our second mistake was to turn up five minutes before they had opened, at 9.55am. We were made to wait, unceremoniously, on the street kerb and then, when they did open, they frostily didn't tell us they were serving, and simply responded to later arrivals. The quality of the ingredients, Italian sausages, pancetta, rocket, was all we had come to expect from our annual visits to Italy, but what we hadn't been prepared for was the surly service and the incompetent cooking. No attempt whatsoever was made to brown the sausages, or the pancetta, which arrived as a grey gloop, luke warm and swimming in oil. The fact that it was olive oil did little to restore our faith in the cafe which we'll always remember as caring less about the food it served than it did about it's customers. Breakfast for two set us back £20, and we wished we had stayed in the hotel.
This is a pretty, inviting looking cafe/ deli on Columbia Market and we felt we were lucky to snag an outside table on a sunny, busy market day.
However, service was very slow: although the waitress was aware of our presence she took a long time to clear the table and take our order.
Service behind the counter was also abrupt to the point of rudeness.
When we did finally get to eat our poached eggs on ciabatta with crispy bacon, it was delicious but we felt that the final bill of £16 for two lattes and two bacon/egg combos was rather overpriced, this however would not have mattered if the service had been friendlier and faster.
