went to cape town fish market last night and i must say i am never going back. whilst expecting the same grade A service and food quality as in Jo'burg the london restaurant is a disappointment. We waited for 15 minutes before someone came and gave us a menu or asked what we'd like to drink. after asking for an exchange for the starter as the mussels were not up to par the waitress spilt the mussel cream all over our table and clothes and found it very amusing.
the fish cakes are to die for but mussels are a disappointment. for mains we had grilled sea bass and surf and turf. the sea food was lovely but the steak lacked in taste.
when asked about the spillage the management said they could not do anything about it since it was a mistake and took off £13 off our £82 bill stating thats all they could do and if we had a problem with it we should write a letter as he could not spend the whole night talking to us because he had customers.
for a place with mediocre food the service made the experience very upsetting.
if you were to go there wish and hope for nothing to go wrong because if it does, the staff cannot do anything about it. they are more or less useless.
Dinner here was great!
My bf and me spent a long time here, eating, relaxing and chatting away.
Our waiter was very friendly and attentive.
All the food we had was delicious.
Awful. We ordered squid and prawn tempura to start. The squid was okay, and the prawn tempura very greasy. We asked the waiter for advice on what to order and he recommended the seafood platter. It had some unidentified overcooked fish (so dry that it crumbled off the fork) and had run out of calamari, thereby adding lots more squid (you can only eat so much). The sides were mean, greasy chips and a rocket salad which was disgusting. It was covered with the horrible parmesan that you can buy ready grated in plastic tubs and tastes like sick and slices of raw red onion! £97 between 3 with a bottle of house wine - not cheap either. Avoid like the plague.
I would say it is the restaurant itself who is putting these 5 star ratings on this website, as all warnings I have heard previously about how bad this restaurant is was born out when visiting this weekend. Dreadful service and massively over-priced food. Avoid.
CTFM is in my opinion an exceptional Fish Restaurant, as a regular user of Toptable to book restaurants I was surprised to be introduced to one that was not on their list, I have eaten regularly at most of the major fish restaurants in London but this one has become without doubt my favourite.
The shear quality of their menu, service and sushi bar is exceptional.
I found their vegetable tempura, calamari and kingclip a fish I have never eaten before to be "Michelin Standard" Michael Winner and AA Gill should visit sooner rather than later.
I shall be going again today and many more times in the future.
We had a great meal. Service was excellent !!!We had a wonderful evening
Great place!!! I love it!!!
Brilliant restaurant! Food is awesome, staff very friendly, and the ambiance is relaxing. Exactly what a restaurant should be.
We came for a quick dinner last night. The meals were SMALL and for £18 per main we were not impressed. The food was dumped on the plate and rather unremarkable, except for the freshness of the fish (what little there was). Staff are friendly. Cafe style dining. Not worth your hard earned pennies.
This is a delightful place to eat, the service was great and the atmosphere fantastic! but it is all about the fresh fish on show! the menu was huge but in a good way- such a selection! and then there was a seperate sushi part if you fancied that. there is even the opportunity to make your own dinner from the catches of the day! the selection of wine is also great as are the amazing desserts! it does not get much better than this
I beg to differ to the previous review. I have had lunch here and also dinner with some of my work colleages - wonderful. The staff were friendly and the food brilliant. Couldn't fault it at all and I am very picky about places with cleanliness, good food, wine and service a must. The other person must of gone to a completely different restaurant than this one!! This place came out top of the pile for me hence the rating.
A must in Soho if you like Japanese or seafood!!
I have dined here twice now - thinking i would give my first horrible experience a second chance but to no avail ... i think the only reason why this restuarant is still open is because of the location. I must admit that i cannot fault the decor and outlay as it is standard as the sister franchise in South Africa - but that is sadly where the similarities end. We ordered the seafood platter for 2 which although very tasty was not worth the the price at all as there were so little food for 2 people to choose from. 1 Small piece of fish (100 grams), 10 prawns, 10 calamari tubes, rice and garnish - split between 2 people. U could actually notice the emptyness of the platter! I felt hungry for the 1st time in my life after a main meal at a restuarant. My complaint was met with am answer of "standard portion size". So if youre up for a very expense meal with small portion sizes u will do well here - otherwise stay well clear!
