Wow! Wife and I had superb evening at Carobs Tree last night. It was our first time there and it was better than we expected even though it was highly recommended long time ago by few of our friends. It started with very worm welcome by the owner and his staff so they easily get 10/10 for that. I have been in restaurants with better atmosphere and interior design but spending the night at Carob Tree will not going to make you feel out of place no mater how posh or fussy you are so I would still rate it with very high 8.5/10. They have very friendly but professional staff with impeccable manners and knowledge of what this place can offer. Their mix of providing excellent service without being very intrusive is just about perfect which is always a bonus if you are trying to have some meaningful conversation with whoever you are spending the evening with therefore staff gets 10/10. Undoubtedly the star man and the heart beat of this great restaurant is (Louie) the owner himself who we thought was a real character, extremely friendly and welcoming person so he gets at least 11/10 from us. When it comes to food we ordered grilled king prawns for starters and sea-bass/halibut fish for mains with potato salads which was 100% right down to our taste...absolutely delicious!!! The fish was very very fresh and cooked/grilled to perfection with no gimmicks just plain and simple like it should be. The quality of the fish was remarkable considering this is not fish only restaurant and the portions are big enough to fill up nicely even the hungriest, which is not always the case with fish dishes. When you top that with excellent range of white wines they have on offer you really will struggle to find much more enjoyable meal no matter where you are in the world. We even received small complimentary dessert from the owner which was just "icing on the cake" moment for us. For food/drink experience it's an easy 10/10...absolutely fantastic. It's not the cheapest place you can find bu

I went to Carob Tree last night with my boyfriend for the first time. I was so pleased with everything. The food was amazing, especially the scallops, they were heavenly! The staff were so friendly and attentive to our needs and even though it was a very busy night, the food came out on time. I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to have a great meal at a great price and nice wine. Wish I had space for dessert because they too looked fabulous. Definitely returning there soon!

I love this restaurant! It is by far one of the best Greek Cypriot restaurants and in all honesty, the best restaurant overall full stop. Me and my partner often go to this restaurant because the food is outstanding, the service is one of a kind and its also reasonably priced. If you want top quality food, with a friendly service, I would highly recommend Carob Tree to you.

My Husband & I went went to the Carob Tree on Sunday 28 August @ 4.30pm approx, after being recomended by many friends to give it a try.
On arrival we were greeted warmly and friendly whilst being directed to our table, Once seated we were given the menu and shown the specials board with plenty of fresh fish on offer and very reasonabley priced !
We had a couple of dips and some grilled prawns for starters served with plenty of warm pitta bread.
Hubby chose the halibut from the specials whilst I opted for the lamb cutlets (medium rare) and a greek salad to share for mains.
We were not dissapointed all of the food was fresh- cooked perfectly and was delicious, all served by attentive smiling staff, who then once we had finished our meal gave us some refreshing watermelon to finish (complimentry) a nice touch !
we felt very well looked after and will definatley return To the Carob Tree and also feel confindent in recomending this restaurant to family and friends.
The House red is very good also !
Thankyou for a lovely Sunday Carob Tree, we will be back !!

I had the worst experience of a restaurant I think it's possible to have here. Because it cost eight quid for two small kebab skewers, I told the waitress I felt it was too much for what appeared to be a starter portion. She called the manager, he then said 'don't pay for anything and get out of my restaurant.' He flung our food and plates in the bin and then grabbed hold of me and forced me out. He then threatened me 'you watch your mouth'. So unless you're game for assault I'd stay away. My girlfriend and I were very shaken by it, in all seriousness.

Visited the Carob Tree Sunday 3rd April 2011, Mother's Day. Having visited before and been totally impressed, this time was sadly disappointing. Firstly, we were 5 crammed onto a table for 4, the waiter slung our menus down in front of us and once the food arrived, pretty much the same again, bread basket slung in front of us with a surly "Enjoy" from the waiter. We then asked for a top up of pitta bread, had the basket snatched away, never to be returned again. We felt pretty unwelcome and as if we were being rushed out. The only two redeeming features were, one the price, reasonable, and two, an older waiter at the end who was quite sociable and actually made an effort to be nice! An uncomfortable experience all round which wasn't quite what we had in mind for our mum!
Hopefully they were just having a bad day but doubt we'll return to find out.

Firstly its position is A1 the restaurant is situated across the fields in lovely part of London

The layout is soft and friendly

I am always greeted with a smile and made to feel special, the guys take enough genuine interest in me and my friends, family or guests

The service first class menu is explained , there are recommendations, specials and something different all the time...

The Fish offeing is first class, the tradional Cypriot Dips and starters are lovely.

I will be going back and I will take my team there for Christmas

visited the carob tree Thursday night for the forth time since discovering this restaurant and have to say that the food is excellent and great value.

we were even given a tour of the spotless kitchen by the owner who obviously takes great pride and has huge passion for his craft.

we had a starter of scallops with a Greek salad which i must say has improved due to the removal of the iceberg lettuce and me and my companion shared a halibut which was cooked just so retaining a moist centre. The meal was finished of with a complimentary dessert which is a nice touch.

I don't normally write reviews but was compelled to defend this excellent establishment after reading the last review, which i found to be offensive, what is wrong with the working class as Michael from highgate put it surely they have the right to eat out.

I think Michael should get out more and stop being offensive from behind a computer. However it goes to show the carob tree is a great buzzy place packed to the rafters every night and justly so.

To James: well, being full to the rafters is not always a sign of fine dining, just like horrible gastropubs serving terrible food can be often very busy indeed.

I think it's busy because there isn't much competition in that area. Kalendar and the other bistro are more like snack places so a Greek restaurant does attract interest.

The food is not authentic, it's cooked for a bland English palate and for me a Greek restaurant that hardly puts any garlic in its dishes (especially fish) is laughable.

This certainly is not to the standards of fine Greek food like Bacchus in Hampstead. And the problem is that its prices are more like fine dining.

The brill that I had for £28 was overcooked and at that price you'd get a finely cooked excellent brill at PEscatori in Mayfair, having a fine dining experience, not drowned by the noise of the Kentish Town hoi polloi that cram this place, where you can't even talk.

I am not being offensive, I'm just sharing my experience.

This restaurant is too pricey for what you get in my opinion. I live in Highgate village, so technically it's conveniently situated for me -bang at the bottom of the hill, on Highgate Road- so if it were nice I'd be a regular.

The first time I went it was a Sunday lunchtime and was pleasantly quiet, and we had a nice selection of meze, an OK Greek salad, and the calamari were good.

It's not quite how it'd be served in Greece (or in the more authentic Greek places in London) but it was enjoyable. I was salivating for the wonderful looking fish at the next table, so we decided to go again just to try fish with some white wine.

Our second visit was on a Friday night and it was very busy, which in itself can be a lot of fun with a nice crowd.

It's a shame that it can be potentially quite a nice restaurant, but the crowd is very down at heel to put it mildly. The couple at the next table were a drunken couple who argued constantly and spent the evening swearing. Not the best ambiance. Particularly when they decided to bother us -- I ignored them of course.

Our meal was OK but very expensive. We had a huge brill and the owner is warm and the fish was a touch overcooked but good. It was certainly not served in the manner that it would in any Mediterranean country --no garlic, now that is shocking.

The fish needed more garlic, parsley or a kind of sofrito flourish to it, and definitely a salad garnish, which is what they would have done in Greece, without asking. The owner asked whether we wanted a salad (which would have been extra), and I declined but I thought that was pathetic, especially as the dish was already priced at £28.

They could do a lot better. I certainly felt short changed and I won't be going back.Michael

I couldnt agree more with Michael, my experience wasnt a good one either I found it very overpriced and the food was very mediocre.

My fish was well overcooked and tasteless and the food wasnt up to the standard of the prices.

I wont be returning thats for sure, the clientele seems to be made up if friends and family who of course speak very highly of the restaurant

I have to say that Michael clearly doesn't know his Greek from his Chinese!! OK lets get something straight... Greek food is hardly ever cooked with Garlic!!!! FACT MICHAEL!!! It is not a herb that is used in Greek cuisine, so it seems that you were confused. The food is what i would describe as modern Greek cuisine. The standard is extremely high and the service is excellent. I dine out all the tI'me and will go as far as to say that it is one of the best eateries in London.

Michael perhaps if you had simply asked for a garlic butter sauce on the side, im positive you would have been accommodated. Finally... Greece is NOT Cyprus. The two countries and cultures are quite different. Typically Greek restaurants smash plates...Cypriots don't. The food has similarities but the taste is not the same. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

We've become semi-regulars. I agree with Yannis that the previous reviewer either has an axe to grind or went to another restaurant.

The fish is great, the grilled veal chop out of this world and the service is Greek to its finger tips.

The portions are generous, the vegetarian Mezze excellent value & don't forget the chips!Try the Organic red wine, not cheap, but first rate.

The atmosphere and cheerful buzz engendered by Louis & his family and staff is all you'd want & more.

Yes, it is noisey, but it all goes to the fun of the meal.

I advise anyone thinking of going to this restaurant that the food is dreadful and service even worse.

My food that i ordered took forever to come and when it did the meat was cold and hard, then i had to try and find a waiter to let them know and that wasnt easy.

The staff were very abrupt and rude and seemed to be all over the place
