The ViewLondon Review
Serious authentic Italian wood-fired pizzas served with love and pride.
The Venue
Casareccia is a stone’s throw from the Tricycle theatre with an attractive raised terrace jutting onto the pavement outside. The fact that it’s raised is definitely an asset when dining on the Kilburn High Road.
The Atmosphere
An open kitchen, complete with a traditional wood-fired pizza lines the back of the restaurant and ensures that you get to feel a part of the whole rustic cooking experience. This touch, combined with chunky dark wooden furniture and tiled floors make this restaurant feel like every bit the authentic Italian dinning experience it promises to be.
The Food
The menu begins with a fairly thorough list of bruchetta options, from the ordinary to the unusual (aubergine, courgette and goats cheese) and moves swiftly on to pizza and pasta. The pizzas, hand-made by their in-house pizzaiolo (pizza chef) and baked in the forno a legna (wood-fired oven) are as deliciously smoky and flavoursome as you’d expect. There are plenty of toppings for every palette; from the more familiar Napoletana and Quatro Stagioni to the more adventurous Pescatore (clams, prawns, mussels, squid, garlic, parsley and chilli).
On top of the comprehensive list of pizza options, if you’re the type of person who relentlessly orders a Margharita and then adds your own bits, you will have a field day. Add-on options include squid rings, smoked salmon and prawns. Pasta dishes are also on offer, but with the oven in sight that’s not really what you’re here for. If you live in the vicinity it’s also worth taking advantage of the of the pizza delivery service on offer. It’s safe to say that anything you opt for would knock the socks off a similarly priced yet comparatively bland Domino’s equivalent.
The Drink
The wines are predominantly Italian, and have been, your waiter will promise you, expertly chosen. The connoisseur may disagree with the statement, but the selections are inexpensive and seasoned house wine drinkers will be positively elated by the £7.50 price tag on their beverage of choice.
The Last Word
Pizza aficionados and seafood lovers will be in their element, a great place to grab some pre- or post-theatre food and drink without any fuss.
