Good south Indian food in an informal setting suitable for friends and family. Approximately £10/head excl drinks makes it very affordable.

Been to the birmingham restaurant twice, both times service was friendly, prompt and not intrusive. They were eager to pleaser and took our orders in good time with a pleasant manner

Food is basic, don't get too adventurous and you will be fine, we had the mango lassi, ghee masala dosas, idli sambar, chilli paneer which did not disappoint.

Parking to rear of restaurant,

3* affordable venue for south Indian fast food

One of my friends who comes from South India took me to the Reading restaurant during the past week.

He had introduced me to South Indian food - very different from your average UK Indian - and we often go to a place in the Uxbridge area which has become one of my favourite restaurants.

He claimed this was even more authentic food and I had high expectations.

The food in itself was reasonable - I had;

Vadai Sambar - good however could have done with more sambar

Chilli Paneer - fantastic

Rasam - frankly a disappointment. One of my favourite dishes at our regular haunt. Too much of it and very watery. Not a patch on the Rasam I am used too.

I then ordered a main of Chicken Dum Biryani, which I and my friend expected would come with a gravy. I know it is a dry dish but my friend had explained this was normally served with small side gravy's and cooling yoghurts. It arrived with a tiny amount of yoghurt and no gravy.

We had to ask for some gravy, and I felt it would have been nice if the staff had queried the order upon taking it - why someone would order without beggars belief as the dish is too dry otherwise.

Which brings me on to the general service - frankly shocking.

While one of the staff members was fine and pleasant to deal with, others were not. I had to ask for a drink three times over before it was delivered, one of the staff members would not even look at me when I was talking to him and pretty much just addressed my friend who happens to be Indian. Another staff member seemed to have difficulty in accepting that I did not want to order my main until I had finished starters and kept coming over and rolling eyes when I stated I was not ready yet.

I really can find little to recommend here other than the fact it was cheap, if this is what floats your boat.

I will continue to go to my normal South Indian restaurant where we are treated very well and the food is consistently tasty.

... cont..

- the service was terrible, waiters often forgetting dishes

- manager wasn't available

- I will not recommend this to any of my family and friends, in fact I have already started spreading the word around about this awful experience in this unhygienic ice box, and will definitely be reporting it to the bodies to get this restaurant closed immediately.

Good luck to those who still choose to dine at the restaurant.

It is one of the cheapest restaurants I have ever been to, and I have been to many. Although the service is not good, the food is brilliant - original south indian food.

Pros
- good south Indian food

Cons
- Terrible service; the waiters ignore you for long periods of time. Waiters are not friendly.
- badly run. half the dishes are unavailable. whenever i go, the biryani and other chicken are not available
- seems to employ dodgy workers. when i was last there, they arrested a worker (who alerted the whole restaurant by his shouting..the border force guys were discrete)
- very unclean. walls had some food on them that seemed old and really stuck on. the plates and cups were very dirty. front windows were cracked too. overall its very disappointing.
- waiters often forget to bring you dishes that you've ordered.

We been, to Chennar Dosa in Reading Yesterday.

I would say food was okay, as i feel saying anything olwer then okay would be insult to the food but the management is crap.

i want to say the good words then crap to them but have to control myself with my dignity. They are pathetic, can not manage the customers in peak time and are useless in response.

VERY BIASED too.... The review Site should also start the negative markings... So that can be used and people do not get wrong understandings from these stars...

Totally agree.
a disgrace to customer service/overall management.
one key point to add would be that they constantly get your order wrong....

I visited Chennai Dosa in Wembley last week.. It was the worst service ever.. It took 50 minutes to bring a maslala dosai.. The taste was also horrible... No ware close to Saravana Bhavan... Spoiling the name of south Indian food... I cannot give lower than 1 Star in this site...

I went to the Chennai Dosa in Wembley last Sunday. We tried the buffet £6 per head. Good price and the staff were friendly.

But it was quite late in the afternoon, so most of the buffet trays were empty! Eventually we left and still felt hungry.....

The restaurant is ok, food taste is authentic South Indian, and quite value for money. Still I would say that its run by quite unprofessional geeks taking orders and serving food, and too slow. You must have plenty of time before walking in, any order you give, at least 10 mins of wait.

I have been to this branch of Chennai Dosa about 4 or 5 times - both taken away and eaten in and felt the food was quite good.

Unfortunately, I can't give even a lukewarm review for the service, atmosphere, phone manner or anything else for that matter.
They get the orders wrong and don't listen to the customers, as i have experienced this problem 3 or 4 times. They clearly have no idea about running a restaurant.
