I booked a table at Chimes for myself and 5 others, not entirely sure what to expect due to some bad reviews. We arrived around 19:45 on a Saturday, there were not many people in the restaurant - never a good sign, so I was expecting the worst.
Only two of us had starters, I had the fish cake, and another diner had game pate, both were delicious. My interest was piqued, I was wondering what to expect for main!
Two ordered the pheasant pie, but were immediately informed that it had pheasant, rabbit and venison in it - a nice suprise. I ordered a steak and mushroom pie, and others ordered fish and chips, a sirloin burger and a lamb shank. Everybody was delighted with their food.
Thank you Chimes, a great time had by all.
Thoroughly recommended, I know I'll be going again.
If you want to impress your overseas friends then I highly recommend the very British Chimes of Pimlico. This place got me some brilliant brownie points with my girlfriend's American parents - it's so quaint and twee, it's where Daily Mail readers would go if they had any taste. You really do owe it yourselves to go to Chimes of Pimlico, it's so very, very good.
The atmosphere at Chimes of Pimlico was good but the service was not! We ordered 3 dishes (Steak and Mushroom Pie, Shepherd's Pie and country something (I don't remember the name)) and 2 out of 3 dishes served were cold in the middle of the pot. We sent back those dishes and they heated them up which was ok. However, we found hair in the last dish! Chimes of Pimlico food was very disappointing but there was more to come! We asked for the bill, waited for 10 minutes even though we were already unhappy about being there and wanted to go home but it seemed that they forgot us.
Yes. The staff at Chimes of Pimlico forgot about us completely. Another table asked for their bill when we'd been waiting for our bill for at least 10 minutes and they gave a bill to the other table in a second, but not us! Even after those four events, Chimes of Pimlico still asked us to pay the bill in full - food, drinks and service charge! I strongly recommend not going to Chimes of Pimlico!
