This is a superb restaurant which we visit whenever we are in central London. We have eaten there in the evening but our preference is to come at lunchtime for the buffet which is amazing - so many vegetarian main dishes and every kind of side dish, all beautifully produced with no tendency to oiliness - just great flavour. Then to finish off if you have left any space for it, a lovely dessert, all included in the one-off price. I have never found the staff anything but courteous and friendly.
Sorry, but this place is a complete let down. Not only was the food absolutely disappointing, the service was appalling. The waiters are rude and completely unenthusiastic. Our food was late, and worse, when I was paying, the rude waiter snatched the bill out of my hand and slammed it on the table in front me saying to me: This is our copy, not your receipt! All this simply because I had taken the bill in my hand and in the process crumpled it a little coz I did not want my friend (who I was treating) to see what the total was!! Terrible service, overpriced food, definitely never going back there again and most definitely not recommending it to anyone!
We have been to Chutneys on a number of occassions.
Each time we have the Buffet and as vegetarians are always very impresed with the quality of the dishes--last Sunday particular highlights were the stir fried vine leaves and also the baby aubergines in sauce.
Highly recommended

I noticed Chutney's Vegetarian Restaurant more than a year ago and I was really surprised. The food is delicious, the service is wonderful (after three visits and a tel booking I was greeted by name every time I had dinner there) and the venue is very clean and welcoming. Furthermore, you get a lot of for your money. So if you are looking for an vegetarian restaurant, give it a try! I recommended it to all my friends and visitors to London.
Chutneys is definitely my favourite Indian restaurant on Drummond Street, and I've tried most of them a number of times.
The lunchtime buffet, available weekdays and weekends, is varied and extremely tasty, with an impressive and colourful range of fresh salads, breads, rices, delicious curries and deserts.
Very good value at just under £6.The menu is very high quality and always delicious.Staff attentive and friendly.
Chutneys is one of several Indian restaurants in Drummond Street, and it has quickly emerged as my favourite.
It doesn't seem to hold to any particular area of Indian cuisine, although it does have a good show of dosa dishes and South Indian styles.Promoting itself a little shyly as 'catering for vegetarians', I would say it majors in the quality of its veggie food.
The special deluxe thali is a real feast with unexpected little treats such as roasted baby aubergines and some proper fresh chutneys - living up to the restaurant name.
I'm glad to see they offer Tikka Gold beer, which is a huge improvement on the normal beers available in Indian restaurants.
Although, as ever, I wish some more robust English bottled ales were available.Chutneys is very reasonably priced for the standard of food it offers, and well worth a visit.
