Located in the Hilton Canary Wharf, this contemporary restaurant provides a relaxed atmosphere and an inventive menu utilising a tempting variety of spices.

The Venue
Contemporary in style with slate floors, low lighting and sleek wooden tables decorated with flowers and candles, Cinnamon Bar and Restaurant is the perfect place for formal dining without the stuffy atmosphere. The table layout is particularly relaxed and has been created to be business-friendly, making it ideal for people eating alone or enjoying a private working lunch or dinner.

The Atmosphere
The staff are friendly and attentive without being overbearing. They’re happy to advise which dishes to try and helpful when recommending accompanying wine. Although the restaurant is formal in style the atmosphere is relaxed with quiet piano music playing in the background and low lighting.

The Food
Diners should try the breadbasket which is exceptional – salty focaccia, freshly-baked breadsticks and crunchy crackers with flavoursome fennel seeds provide a delicious start to the meal. The bread comes with two little pots of butter – tomato and red pepper flavour and mixed herb flavour – as well as a dish of extra virgin olive oil. An amuse bouche of pea soup with truffle oil with a homemade cheese straw is both intense and moreish and the pastry simply melts in the mouth.

Starters are artfully presented and perfect in size. The pan-fried razor clams and king prawns with crispy chorizo, potatoes and kalamata olives (£7) really stand out as an exceptional dish. The fresh and tender clams combine well with the salty chorizo and robust olives. For a lighter option the scallop carpaccio (£8) is an unusual choice and comes served on a cucumber and mint salad with blinis with a dot of caviar and lime creme fraiche. The scallops taste fresh from the sea and the flavours of the zesty dressing, salty caviar and punchy mint and cucumber salad go well together. Starters are priced from £6.

The main menu has a healthy dose of fish options - Billingsgate fish market is located close to the hotel (which is where the chefs get their fresh fish supplies). There are plenty of meat options and a couple of vegetarian choices too. The roasted courgette coated sea bream (£18.50) can only be described as a work of art – little slivers of courgette are painstakingly layered to create green vegetable 'scales'. The fish is tender and full of flavour and comes served with a crab, leek and pea ragout as well as a dot of harissa for a little bit of heat and also to counteract the creamy, rich ragout. The sweet potato ravioli with shitake mushrooms and truffle foam (£11.50) is a little on the rich side and needs something bitter, such as a side of rocket, to break up the flavours as it’s all together very sweet. Mains range from £11 to £28.

Desserts start from £5 and there's a nice selection of both light and indulgent options. The banana tart tatin (£6) is a nice light option with succulent sweet bananas on a flaky pastry base. This comes with a subtle clove and ginger parfait and a drizzle of white chocolate sauce – creamy with a hint of spice. The lime and mango bavaroise (£6.50) comes with a green tea ice cream and passion fruit coulis – the flavours combine well but would benefit from a stronger lime kick.

The Drink
There is an extensive wine list available at Cinnamon Bar and Restaurant, with house wines starting from around £22.50 per bottle. The pinot grigio rose (£24.50) is a light and fruity option with sweet ripe cherry and strawberry flavours. By the glass, wines range from £5.75 to £7.55 for a small glass and £7.75 to £9.55 for a large. There is also a selection of bottled beers, spirits, cocktails, shooters and dessert wines available.

The Last Word
Providing Modern European cuisine which has been infused with an inventive selection of herbs and spices, this is the perfect venue for a business or romantic dinner, and it’s also very suitable for lone diners thanks to the relaxed layout.
