The Event: Clapham Common Show

Why you should go:
Clapham Common is constantly alive with all sorts of activity, from sports to gigs, picnics, sunbathing, tai chi and sponsored walks. This weekend will be no exception as the Clapham Common Show, A Country Affair, arrives with a huge array of shows, rides, stalls, sports and plenty of food and drink. It’s a family event, so it’s the ideal place to take the kids, nephews and nieces, grandchildren or godchildren over the bank holiday weekend.

The range of activities going on throughout the weekend is quite staggering. There’s something for absolutely everyone, whether you want to watch Morris or Maypole dancing, to learn circus skills or how musical instruments are made, to see sheep shearing or hen races, catch the long jumping dog pool event or just to browse around the fresh, home made food and drinks at the Farmers Market.

And when you’ve had enough of the amazing entertainments, you can rest and recharge at The Inn, with Pimms, champagne, beer or wine, and whatever you feel like from the selection of meals, snacks and ice creams.

Who you’ll find there:
It’s an event heavily geared to families, so there’ll be all sorts of families with young children heading to Clapham Common from all over the capital to get to the Clapham Common Show. Bound to be popular with Claphamites, the event will attract a fair few local twentysomethings, sauntering over for an ironic appreciation of the Maypole dancing and watching the dancing sheep with a huge hangover.

How to find it:
The Clapham Common Show, A Country Affair, takes place from 10am – 6pm, on Saturday 24th May, Sunday 25th May and Monday 26th May 2008.
