I infrequently organise a group of 20 work colleagues to descend on a Brick Lane curry house and the Clifton never disappoints, its become our favoured choice. Last week was the 4th time Ive done so, although its also often been the choice after our Jack the Ripper walks.
Each time the food has been a talking point for days afterwards with many of us trying the vast range that the Clifton offers but which aren't seen in your local curry house.
For something different I tried Chicken Tofa, Grilled Duck Tikka, Grilled Lamb chops, Duck Pasanda and Tandoori mixed grill which a few of us shared. With a host of nan breads, generous rices and a few side dishes including Channa massala, saag paneer and bhindi bhaji we were all treated to excellent food with great service.
Large and spacious, it serves large parties well, our only complaint being the size of the toilets. I've recommend The Clifton to a number of friends and I've yet to hear one bad report on the food.
In response to the other reviews below, Ive never had an issue with the bill, which for large groups would be easy to inflate. Apparently the restaurant staff and decor has been renewed, so I only noticed one familiar face.
I'll definitely return.

I ate here with my son and husband on 6/3/09. The food was really tasty, the one thing that did leave a nasty taste in my mouth though was the apparent 'mistake' on the bill.
The bill came to £112.45, but for a curry and two drinks each I thought this was far too much.
On querying this, and after much discussion with the waiter, the bill went down to £50.45!!
I don't feel that this was a genuine mistake. I am from the North of England so didn't have the local accent.
Unfortunately for them though I lived in the East End for ten years. Diners beware. As I said, lovely food, but we won't be back.
The Clifton Restaurant is a very hip, trendy looking spot. Overall the experience there was fine. The food was excellent - five stars for the curry. The only issues were it was way too loud (hard on conversational abilities) and they use some sort of chemical (probably butane) to torch their burners and it was getting in our throats, making us cough.
The service was so-so. I think they were a bit miffed because we're American. Otherwise Clifton Restaurant has excellent food, decent portions and affordable. I would go back again... even with my American accent!
