I am Au pair and we meet here for Amanda's Music Class.
It is very good and there is room to for the buggy.
The coffee latte is very lovely and my baby likes the hot chocolate and cakes.
We always like to meet freinds here as very friendly place and away from cars and buses.
Today we eat the tastie soup as it was cold outside. This was nice.
I was very disappointed when i took my gran and boyfriend out for coffee and cake after a stroll in the common. The cappucino was un drinkable, and there was lack of staff. No one seemed to care or seem concerned with their customers. I will definetly not be going there again. It wasn't cheap either
I attended a great party here last week - what a great location for an evening do.
Not at all sure what previous review is talking about as toilets were fine!!
the cafe is dirty. the toilets need replacing. the staff are not really interested in working there and do not speak English. Bearing in mind the price for a coffee they should spend some of the money on refurbishing it. this is a very very poor cafe. It could be so much better.
I have been a regular at common Ground since it opened around 5 years agoand I am surprised by some of the reviews posted here.I think I probably speak for the silent majority of customers who generallysay nothing but keep coming back. The reason for it being popular and busyis because it is very good at what it does. It provides something foreveryone and around here that is difficult. It is my childrens favourite place and one of the most satisfying things (as mentioned in other reviews) is that they do finish their lunch or tea. If I am eating I generally go for the fresh blackboard specials and although they vary they are usually very good.I do feel sorry for the staff who are criticised in other reviews, they do need to be saints to work here as it is difficult to clear up after so many young families. What I would say is that they are efficient, service is very good for a cafe and they do generally keep the place clean and tidy - but they could try and smile a bit more....On behalf of me, my family and a lot of my friends we say keep up the good work, we are so glad Common Ground is on our Common. What did we do before you opened ????
I really like the location of this cafe and it i is a lovely little building. Great spot for some refreshments with your kids after a trip to the park.
However the food and service and hygiene levels are somewhat lacking.
The standard of the lunch items can vary on different days. Once I received a jacket potato the size of a golf ball which had clearly been left in the store room for a few months.
Pretty unimpressive. The previous week I had had a lovely lunch there. The waitresses are friendly enough but don't seem very motivated to help or clean the place.
They also don't seem remotely bothered if someone complains. I wiped my little boys place at the table on my last trip there and about a months worth of grime came off on the baby wipe.
I think this is a nice spot for a cup of coffee but I wouldn't fancy eating lunch there again anytime soon. Its a shame - I think the owner needs to pull the place together.
With this lovely summer weather I have had the opportunity to visit a lot of our commons and parks in South London over the last few months. With some of my friends, we have sampled the refreshments available on Wandsworth, Clapham, Tooting, Wimbledon Commons and Battersea Park. Hence this and my other reviews on park cafes that have an entry.
Common Ground Café.
Thank goodness this is my local café. It is head and shoulders above the other cafes of this type we visited in South London. We have visited on 3 different occasions over the last 2 weeks and have nothing but praise. The children enjoyed and actually finished their meals and our lunches were also tasty and fresh (we had the daily special of salad together with a slice of feta, courgette and mint tart). The coffees, cakes and ice creams were also delicious. Service was efficient and they also have a useful separate take away facility on the Sunday that we only wanted drinks and ice creams to complement our picnic.
The only problem, as I see it, is that it does get very busy on sunny days but not too sure you can do anything about its popularity.
I have been to this cafe many times over the years it was a lovely place to take the kids but now its completley different its become very expensive and the portion sizes have become smaller and the staff ruder! I ordered a childrens meal for my son which consisted of 2 fish fingers 4 chips and 2 small pieces of broccoli, it cost £ 4.50! In other restaraunts you get a drink and pudding for this price. The services was awful and the waitress miserable and the table was not cleared. The owners have obvioulsy become very greedy and assume that there customers are all rich.
