The ViewLondon Review
Positioned next door to his Lucky 7 diner, the first Mexican styled venture from Tom Conran is a great success. The VenueThis quaint and very kitsch venue comprises of two floors, a small pavement cafe style restaurant on the ground floor and a large basement underneath with more tables that opens in the evenings from Wednesday to Sunday. Seating consists of a bench that runs all the way around the room and the place is scattered with bright cushions, Frida Kahlo colours and, rather bizarrely, skeletons.
The AtmosphereThe atmosphere in this intimate eaterie is easygoing and fun, making it the perfect place for a first date. It does get livelier however, towards the end of the week and you may be asked to share a table if the restaurant is very busy.
The FoodTraditional Mexican dishes are cooked to a very high standard and offer fantastic value for money. The salads are particularly good, and filling enough to stand alone as a main, and don’t forget to sample the churros (crunchy cinnamon doughnuts served with a chocolate dipping sauce), which are the house speciality.
The DrinkCocktails unfortunately, are rather disappointing at Crazy Homies, with even the classic Margeritas leaving a lot to be desired. It's best to stick to tequila shots, iced Coronas and the traditional Michelada, which is beer with citrus juices, salt and seasoning.
The Last WordCrazy Homies is bohemian, fun and great value for money. If you're not a Notting Hill local, start inventing a reason to visit sharpish.
