The ViewLondon Review
This is a modest branch of the colourful juice bar in Bank where accountants, bankers and secretaries squeeze up against one another to try and obtain their unique fruity fusions and potent creamy soups. The VenueCrussh has splashed its vibrant greens and oranges all over London town in the last few years but this particular venue is unassuming in comparison. It’s a small venue, squeezed midway down Cornhill and comprises of a tiny counter, a refrigerated section for sandwiches and wraps and three tables with chairs. The space is intimate to say the least and if you ask a staff member to enlighten you as to what the most attractive features on the menu are, you may find the answer escalating into a discussion about the issue with your fellow customers.
The AtmosphereThe venue is suitably busy at and around lunchtime resulting in unavoidable queuing but as the only orders are for smoothies and soups, you’ll find yourself shuffling along efficiently. The general hustle and bustle robs the place of any controlled ambience. Inoffensive music plays in the background to little affect. Clearly Crussh do very good business here however.
The FoodThe soups, sandwiches and breakfast meals are bursting with exciting flavours and are very tasty indeed. There are several surprising sandwich fillings such as crayfish and chorizo but the real rewards are in the soups which change daily on rotation. The Thai chicken soup is spicy but not overwhelmingly so and the succulent chicken pieces are complemented by the generous portion of chopped red peppers and added chilli. The soup itself is smooth, consistent and creamy, absolutely ideal for filling your stomach at lunchtime. The spinach soup is similarly consistent but lacks the exotic fusion that the Thai chicken possesses and therefore tastes a little drab and flat in comparison.
The DrinkThe juices and smoothies are an enticing mix of fruits with boosters comprising of selected vitamins, minerals and herbs designed not only to refresh you but also fill your body with functional properties. The English Orchard concoction is a delicious blend of apples, berries and Echinacea, a property used in herbal medicine which is included in the drink supposedly to keep active the cells that have been put in charge of defending your body against flu and infections. The drink is a splendidly winning fusion and its strengthening of defences against the nitwit coughing in the seat next to you on the journey home can only be a bonus.
The Last WordThis is an efficient little bar with a fine array of lunchtime options but if you choose to stay here for your lunch hour, you may find yourself Crusshed.
