The ViewLondon Review

Review bydevanshi mody21/08/2007
This discreet Persian restaurant on Kensington High Street is a right royal treat, in every sense of the expression.

The Venue
The board on the outside that announces Persian and Lebanese cuisine doesn’t look terribly appealing and the basement restaurant doesn’t have a wow factor about it. Yet, the decor manages to still be interesting. Some of the furniture is traditional Persian and an exquisite Persian kaftan adorns one of the walls.

The Atmosphere
This little-known restaurant is rumoured to be the haunt of relatives of the former Shah of Iran, Middle Eastern sheikhs and sultans. The service at this restaurant epitomises characteristic Persian hospitality, whilst the staff are knowledgeable and fascinating to talk to.

The Food
Persian cuisine is the attraction of this place, and everything from the finest quality olives to the Persian lassi is a treat. But the more familiar Lebanese cuisine is available for those (perhaps including sheikhs and sultans) uninitiated in Persian cuisine. It is advisable to select from the extensive Persian selection, be it meats or vegetarian fare, and the fresh Persian bread is fabulous. The desserts are predominantly Lebanese, which is sad as Persian deserts are far fancier. But then, it’s rarely if ever that they're found in London.

The Drink
Dione knows its fine wines and this is reflected in the wine list. Be sure to have a glass or two with your meal.

The Last Word
Resist the temptation to keep Dione all to yourself and tell everyone all about this wonderful place.
